I grabbed the back of his head, my fingers tangling in his hair, and tugged it down to meet mine. The moment his tongue tangled with mine, white spots blurred my vision, and my whole body went taut. This wasn’t just an orgasm to take the edge off, this was one for the history books.

He kissed me again before pulling his hand from my pants and bringing his fingers to his lips. When he licked them clean, my whole body vibrated.

“Why is that so fucking hot?” I panted as I watched him.

He smirked at me. “Feel better now?” he asked cockily.

I didn't have it in me to even bother trying to deny it. “I’m gonna need another shower,” I answered as I rebuttoned my pants.

“And a new pair of panties,” Cody added with a wink.

I reached for his belt, more than happy to return the favor, but he stopped me. “You don’t want …”

“This wasn’t about me, baby girl.”

“But you’re hard,” I pointed out.

“I’m always hard when you’re around.”

I didn’t believe him, but it was a nice thought so I let it go. “I can take care of that.”

“You can. And you will. Tonight though. Right now, we need to get going,” Cody reminded me, picking up my bag and opening the front door.

I followed behind him silently, slightly amused by the awkward shuffle he was doing. Obviously, it wasn’t easy to walk when your dick was tenting your jeans. Not that I could talk. I’m pretty sure that after the last few days, I was bow-legged and not one bit embarrassed.

He helped me into the truck and buckled my seatbelt, then we were on our way back down the mountain and into reality. But I had a plan forming in my mind. Cody mightn’t have let me repay the favor but tonight would be different, and suddenly it couldn’t come soon enough.

Chapter fifteen

Cody

Today just wasn’t my day.

After I’d dropped Tillie off, taking my time to thoroughly kiss her goodbye and making her promise she’d be tangled in my sheets again tonight, I headed into Fort Marshall.

Normally, the drive wasn’t so bad, but today I’d gotten caught behind a logging truck, making me late to my appointment. Even though I’d had the decency to call, they gave away my appointment! It wasn’t until I was about ready to scream and my coach called that they managed to squeeze me in.

The doctor, who had a stick up his ass, probably about being forced to work through his lunch break, was a complete asshole. I’d seen enough medical professionals to know when they were taking the piss, and this guy was drowning in it.

“Have you been doing your exercises?” he asked for the fifth time.

“Of course, " I answered, trying to keep my temper on lockdown.

“And seeing a physio?”

“Twice a week.”

“Hmmm.”

I didn’t like the sound of that hmmm.

Turns out my gut was right. According to Dr. No Personality, my shoulder hadn’t healed, and my range of motion was well below what he would expect for someone this far along in their recovery. He sent the results straight to the club doctors, and before I’d even made it home, they had me booked on a one-way flight tomorrow afternoon back to Dallas to see the specialist.

I sat in my hot tub staring out over the valley, enjoying the peace and quiet, wondering when I’d be able to get back here. There were a million other things I should be doing right now, but none seemed as important as sitting here with the spa jets blasting into my muscles while I nursed a beer.

For a moment, I closed my eyes and pretended nothing had changed, and I wasn’t worried. If I just pretended for a little longer that my whole future, my whole life wasn’t hanging dangerously close to the edge, I might be able to breathe.

Before I had a chance to nod off, the doorbell rang, and I sat up.
