He shakes his head. “Uh, I don’t know. I don’t remember. Have you had too much to drink tonight?”

I roll my eyes at him, then look to my left, then to my right. Not a single trace.

Oh, my God, I’m going insane.

Appa’s tired from an early morning with Luca, so we end up requesting an Uber before midnight. I didn’t want to get drunk anyway because alcohol can mess with my head, but Adri still pouts as we pull away from the club. I lean forward to talk to the driver.

“Hey, could you drop me off here, please?” I ask, showing the pin on the map app on my phone.

“Sure,” she replies.

“Going to Enzo’s instead?” Appa asks when I sit back.

“Yeah, I want to see him,” I answer.

More like need to...

She smirks. “I bet.”

“Thanks for making a detour,” I say as I get out of the car in front of Enzo’s house. “Have a safe flight, Adri.”

“Thanks, Tilly. Have fun with Enzo,” she says, adding a giggle after his name.

“Will do,” I reply, shutting the car door.

But I’m not here for sex. I just want to confirm that he was home this evening. I swear that guy was him!

I walk past the driveway where his truck is parked and knock on the heavy wooden door. Enzo opens the door shirtless, wearing only gray joggers. He’s wearing his glasses—a rarity for him. He only does so after his contacts irritate him.

God, he’s yummy—ugh, that’s not why I’m here!

“Tilly?” Enzo asks. I step past him, and he shuts the door behind me. “Everything okay? Did you have fun?”

“Yeah, I just wanted to see you,” I say. I rise on my toes and kiss him. His lips taste like coffee, and I place my hands on his chest. “Are you working?”

He nods. “For a bit. I have a meeting with a new distributor on Monday to prepare for,” he answers.

“Oh, I hope I didn’t interrupt.”

Enzo shakes his head. “No, it’s good to see you. You surprised me. I thought you were going back to your dad’s tonight.”

“I was supposed to, but ugh, it’s going to sound crazy. I thought I saw you at the club, but it must’ve been someone else. I figured it was my brain telling me I was missing you.”

“I’ve been home all night, but I missed you, too.” He kisses me again.

“But something’s bothering me,” I whisper against his lips.

“What?”

I peer into his dark eyes. “Why do I have to hear about your family from Adri? Why haven’t you told me about your brothers?”

Enzo pinches his nose under his glasses. “There’s not much to tell. They’re living their lives, and I don’t talk to them.”

“But they’re your brothers. It’s like your mom. I feel like I know nothing about you,” I complain.

“Look, I don’t know what you want me to say. You know plenty about me, and it’s not like we’d know everything about each other after a few weeks,” he snaps. “Sorry, I wasn’t expecting you or this. Fuck…” It’s annoying how he always has a good point and can switch into damage control in an instant. He could have been an amazing lawyer.

“I didn’t know your brother lived with you.”
