She blinked, and a lone tear trailed down her cheek, but her smile was bigger than anything he’d ever seen her give him. “You love me?”
“I do.”
“I’m not dreaming?”
He pressed his lips against hers softly. She sighed beneath him, and he deepened the embrace, pouring everything he was feeling into it. When he pulled away, they were both breathless. “Does that feel like a dream?”
“No, it feels very real, and I love you, too, Damon.” Her fingers tapped his chest, right over his heart. “I promise to look after this, like I know you’ll look after mine.”
“Always and forever.”
They kissed again, and Margot tugged at his shoulders until she fell back on the bed, dragging him with her. Her hands grasped at his shirt, pulling it from his jeans. He grabbed it and tore it off, dropping it to the ground.
The sheet had fallen, and her soft breasts were pressed hard against his chest. He trailed kisses across her cheek and down her neck. He was about to take her hard nipple into his mouth, when the shrill of his phone sounded, loud and obnoxious.
He was tempted to ignore it, but his training to always answer a call because it could mean he had to leave wasn’t a habit he could forget.
“Sorry,” he mumbled against her flesh. He sat up and dug into his back pocket for his phone, seeing Wilt’s name on the screen, and noting the time. He was supposed to have met him ten minutes ago. “Hey, Wilt, I’m on my way.”
Wilt chuckled. “Okay, and normally I wouldn’t bother you, but Indigo won’t leave until you’re here. She doesn’t trust me not to overdo things.”
In the background he heard Indigo say something, but he couldn’t pick it up. “She’s not wrong, I know that once you get in the zone on that computer, you forget time, and everything else. I’ll be there in fifteen.”
“See you then.”
He disconnected the call and sighed. “I need to go,” he said, even though it was the last thing he wanted considering they’d just confessed their love for each other.
“It’s fine. And I understand. Also, the sooner I get to my place, the sooner I get the cleaning done.” She tossed the covers back, and his hard cock pressed against his zipper. Could he? No, he quashed the thought. “I’ll text you when I get there and when I’m about to leave, okay?”
Margot’s words penetrated his sensual fog. “Sounds good.” He reached down and pulled his shirt on, grabbing her hand. “I love you.”
The words were so easy to say with Margot, which only reinforced how right this was for them.
“I love you too.” She brushed her lips against his. “Now, go and make sure Wilt doesn’t overdo it.”
“I’ll make sure he only does a couple hours. I don’t want to face Indigo’s wrath if I let him stay all day.”
Margot laughed. “She may look all beautiful, glamorous, and amenable, but when it comes to Wilt, she’s protective and possessive. Just like him.”
Just like me, too.
Damon didn’t say the words out loud, but he had a feeling Margot knew it. And if she wanted to be possessive of him, he was more than okay with that.
He gave her a wave and walked out feeling lighter than he had in ages, and it was all to do with the woman who had burrowed into his heart and soul. He didn’t want to ever let her go.
Chapter
Twenty-Three
Margot drove down the long driveway to her unit at the bottom, a flash of happiness filling her. She’d missed her little home, but not as much as she thought she would. She loved living with Damon. Loved being around him and sharing the everyday mundane tasks.
The transition to living with him had been effortless; as if they were meant for each other. And after his declaration of love this morning, she believed that even more now.
She gave herself a little hug and stepped out of the car. It was a weird not feeling the security of Damon’s hand on the small of her back as she walked to her front door, something he always did when they got out of the car together. Whether it be going to the office or into his house. It was a simple gesture, but so meaningful.
Unlocking the door, she glanced over her shoulder at the garden behind her. It was full of weeds and looked untidy. She would give it a quick weed after she’d cleaned the house. And she’d check the back as well, it was probably a bit overgrown.
The smell of a house left unopened for a while greeted her, and she screwed up her nose. First things first, open the windows and let some air into the place. She’d open the back sliding door to let the air flow through and keep the front screen door open and locked as well. It wouldn’t be long before the stale smell escaped.
