Relief hits me first.

Then pride, so strong that I sit a little straighter.

I did this.

Before the wine. Before the fire alarm trapped us there. Before Diego kissed me.

I found the property because I listened to him. I arranged access when it was not officially available. I built an entire showing day from nothing because Randall refused to give me so much as one listing, and by the end of that day, Diego Conti had found somewhere he wanted to live.

The sex did not get me this deal.

I mean, the sex was great, but it wasn’t worth the purchase of a multi-million dollar penthouse. God, no.

He had already decided before all that.

That matters more than I want to admit.

Of course, the fact that he chose the penthouse where we proceeded to have sex is apparently the universe’s way of making sure I can never enjoy a professional victory without at least a little humiliation attached.

“What?” Leah asks.

I realize I am smiling at my computer.

I turn toward her. “He’s buying it.”

Carter stops halfway through taking a drink of coffee. “What?”

“The penthouse.” I glance back at the email just to make sure the words have not changed. “Diego’s office just confirmed he wants to proceed.”

Leah’s entire face lights up. “Blair.”

I cannot help smiling now. “Yeah.”

“You did it.”

“I did.”

Carter sets his coffee down and walks closer. “Wait. He actually committed?”

“He wants the full file and an independent inspection. They’re starting due diligence.”

“That fast?”

I nod. “Apparently.”

Leah pushes back from her desk and comes around to mine. “You found a property for one of the owners of this company with less than a day to prepare, and he’s buying it.”

“When you say it like that, I sound very impressive,” I joke.

“You are very impressive,” she says, completely serious.

That hits me more deeply than I expect.

Yesterday morning, I was at risk of losing my job. And now I'm on top of the world.

Carter looks toward Randall’s office. “Oh, he is going to hate this.”

I follow his gaze.
