“Usually when properly motivated.”
My gaze goes to the island before I can stop it.
So does his.
A flash of last night comes back with enough detail that I have to look away.
His smile widens.
“I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.”
“At this exact moment, I am giving it serious consideration.”
“I’ll risk it.”
I snatch my skirt from the stool and start pulling it on, which is much harder than it was when I put it on yesterday morning. I mutter a curse and try again while Diego continues dressing as well.
“And besides,” he says casually, “I’m buying the penthouse.”
My hands stop. I look at him. “What?”
“I’m buying it.”
“You decided?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
“Last night.”
My eyes narrow. “Before or after the kitchen?”
His mouth curves slowly. “Before.”
Heat climbs into my face, which only irritates me more.
I have no idea why I asked that.
I continue putting my skirt back into place. “That does not make this better.”
“It solves several practical concerns.”
“It does not solve the fact that we had sex in someone else’s home.”
“He’ll be compensated extremely well for the inconvenience he will never know occurred.”
“That is not how this works.”
“Why not?”
“Because money does not retroactively make something professional.”
“No, but it does mean he’ll be selling the property to someone who wants it, at a price I assume he’ll be very happy with. The apartment will be returned to him exactly as he left it in the meantime.”
“That is not the point.”
