His gaze moves around the bedroom before returning to me. “I had noticed.”

“In this bed.”

“I noticed that too.”

“The seller’s bed, Diego.”

“Yes, Blair.”

“He’ll be back in town later today.”

“Then it’s fortunate we woke up before later today.”

I stare at him, genuinely appalled by the calm way he says it.

“How are you not horrified?”

Diego sits up, the sheet falling to his waist, and I immediately look away because I absolutely do not need the distraction of his chest right now.

“What would you like me to be horrified about?”

“Everything.”

“That covers a lot.”

“We had sex in a property.”

His mouth twitches.

“Do not smile,” I scold.

“I’m trying not to.”

“No, you’re not.”

“I know.”

I make an aggravated sound and turn toward the bedroom door. My clothes are out there somewhere, which means I now have to retrace last night’s path through the penthouse while wrapped in bedding that does not belong to me. The realization is humiliating enough that I almost consider staying exactly where I am and allowing death to come naturally.

“My career is over.”

“It isn’t.”

“You don’t know that.”

“I know it with considerable confidence.”

“That confidence is becoming extremely irritating.”

“You didn't have a problem with it last night.” There is movement behind me, and I glance over my shoulder just as Diego gets out of bed.

Completely naked.

I turn my head away again. “Could you put something on?”

“I don't seem to have any clothes in here.”

I close my eyes.
