“I didn’t say anything.”
“You were about to.”
“I was only thinking it.”
“It counts.”
“I'm just saying.” He shrugs. “The perks of being a beautiful woman.”
“I might get fired tomorrow,” I tell him. “Being flirted with across the room won't make a damn bit of difference then.”
“That's what Randall told you?” Leah asks quietly, incredulous.
I nod.
“What did he give you?” She nods at the piece of paper.
“It's his phone number. I'm supposed to call and set up a meet tomorrow.”
“What about the properties?” she asks
“Apparently those are my problem now.”
Carter straightens. “You’re kidding.”
“I wish.”
Leah’s jaw clenches. “He isn’t giving you a list?”
“Nope.”
“That’s bullshit,” she says vehemently.
“Yup.”
Carter drags a hand down his jaw. “You’ve only been here a few weeks.”
“I’m aware.”
“You don’t have the broker relationships for this yet.”
“I am also aware of that.”
Leah looks toward Randall’s office again, openly irritated now. “Then what exactly do you have to do?”
“Pull off a full day of luxury showings by tomorrow morning.”
“And if you can’t?”
I stare at the folded paper beside my keyboard for a second before answering. “I’m fired.”
Both of them go quiet.
Then Leah says, “Excuse me?”
Carter’s expression darkens. “He actually said that?”
“Yup.”
