She immediately looks toward the inspector nearest the windows.
“Everything has been going smoothly so far,” she says. “They started with the exterior envelope and windows because building management has someone available to answer questions about those systems. After that, they’re moving through electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, appliances, and the rest of the unit.”
“Any concerns yet?”
“Nothing I’ve been told about.”
She shifts the tablet in her hands, and my attention drops briefly to her fingers.
I remember those too.
This is becoming ridiculous.
A week ago, I would have assumed that once Blair and I left this penthouse, the attraction would settle into something familiar. An excellent night. A beautiful woman. A memory worth keeping.
Instead, I am standing here noticing her fingers.
I do not notice fingers.
Ricardo steps past us toward the windows, already studying the room with the thoughtful expression he wears when evaluating. “I want to see the building financials again after we’re done. Particularly the capital schedule.”
Blair nods. “I have copies in the file. Martin sent the updated package yesterday. But I can summarize them for you right now if you'd like.”
“You've looked over them already?”
“Of course,” she says.
Ricardo smiles slightly. “I like you.”
I look at him. “You’ve known her for thirty seconds.”
“She’s organized.”
“That is all it takes?”
“I'm a simple man.”
Blair laughs, and the sound hits me with unexpected force.
I have missed that.
Another curious development.
She turns toward me again. “Do you want to walk through with the inspectors, or would you rather let them work and review everything when they’re finished?”
“I’ll walk through.”
Her eyebrows lift. “The entire inspection?”
“Yes.”
“It could take several hours.”
“I cleared my morning.”
Ricardo glances at me again.
I ignore him.
