“Doesn’t matter. Two against one. Means we have an omega guest coming, and we should get a room ready.” Clint smirks, and I scowl at him.
I storm from the shed, leaving those two to make sure everything is good to go. My hands flex at my sides, itching for something to grab, something to slam into the ground. Same feeling I get in the chute right before I go after a steer—only this time there ain’t nothing to tackle but my own damn irritation.
When I get to the house, I kick off my boots and storm up to my room.
What in the hell are those two thinking? Yeah, we all want an omega, and I’d do just about anything to find ours. But inviting some strange girl to stay here who has ties to a dangerous motorcycle club is not the answer. Sure, it helps Hunter out, but we don’t owe his ass anything. None of us have seen or spoken to him since he left for Virginia years ago.
Don’t they see that if he’s calling us to care for his sister, and we’re pretty much strangers to him and don’t know her from a ham sandwich, the trouble is bad? Also, if this girl won’t listen to her alpha brother, who’s an MC member, then she sure as hell ain’t gonna listen to us. We don’t need an unruly girl up here running amuck and fucking up our routine.
A knock on the door has me sitting up on my bed and looking at the door. “What?!” I bark.
“It’s me, asshole. Just thought you should know that we’re calling Hunter to tell him he can bring the girl here. If you have any stipulations, you better speak now or forever hold your peace,” Clint says from the other side of the door. I roll my eyes but get off the bed.
Flinging the door open, I’m met with my cousins smirking at me in the hall. I glare at them. “This is bullshit.” My hands curl at my sides. “If this brings any trouble our way, I’m going to beat both of your asses.”
“Yeah, yeah. We hear you. Lighten up, man. This might be our chance to meet our omega,” Clint says, turning away from me and heading toward the extra room we have up here.
“If I remember right, this girl isn't even twenty. Never met her, but I can recall Hunter being annoyed as hell that his mom and her boyfriend had a baby so long after him. There’s like nine years between them. We can’t be mated to a barely legal omega.” I follow Clint into the room and flip on the light.
“I doubt someone so young is our mate, but she could lead to another omega. Maybe there’s a sexy little club omega just waiting to meet us. This is the universe’s way of pushing us in the right direction.” Tripp sits at the desk in the corner of the room, and pulls out his phone.
While we wait for Hunter to answer, I start stripping the blankets and sheets from the bed. No one ever stays in this room unless our family comes into town. It’s been a while since any of them have been here, so this room needs a good cleaning to be omega-ready.
“Nitro.” Hunter’s voice comes from the phone.
“Hunter. We’ve spoken, and your sister can come here. But we have some ground rules,” Tripp informs him.
“I appreciate this, man, so much. More than you’ll ever know. I owe you one. Whatever you need, just name it and I got you,” Hunter rambles.
“We won’t put up with any bullshit. No drugs. No random people at our house. If she’s gonna be here, she’s gonna help out. We won’t have a spoiled girl mooching off of us. We’ve worked hard for what we have, and we expect her to pitch in a hand here and there,” I tell him firmly. I can feel the vein in my neck throb with how worked up I am.
“I’ll pass the information to Autumn. She’s a good girl, but she’s mouthy. I won’t lie to you. I trust ya’ll to keep her safe, but don’t be afraid to keep her in line, too. Momma let her do what she wanted, but since Momma died, I’m now her guardian. She’s been my responsibility, and I’m no one’s role model. Ya feel me?” Hunter sighs as he finishes.
“We got you. Your sister will be safe up here, but this is a working ranch, so she’ll be expected to help out and we won’t tolerate any sass. But Hunter, you’re gonna wanna bring her sooner than next week. We’re expecting some bad storms, and you don’t wanna be caught driving in it. Are you flying?” Tripp asks as Clint leaves the room with the bedding and I hear him start the washing machine down the hall.
“Nah. I know my sister, and she’s gonna wanna bring all her shit. Well, as much as she can. So I’ll have to take my truck,” Hunter grumbles.
“How long do you expect this girl to be here? She shouldn’t need that much shit for a short stay,” I say through clenched teeth.
“A month at most. Shit should be handled by then. I’ll come back to get her. My phone’s sayin’ it’s a thirty-two-hour drive to your place. So I’ll be there Saturday. See you then, and thanks again.”
“Don’t you need our address?” Tripp inquires with a raised brow.
“Nah, I had our guy pull it up to make sure you live in a safe area before I even called. We’re good. See you in a few days.” Hunter hangs up and Tripp hits the button, darkening the screen before releasing a sigh.
“Bedding is in the wash. We’ll need to dust and mop. Other than that, I think the room is good to go. Oh shit! What about a nest? Should we make a different room for her nest? What if she goes into heat while she’s here? We’ll have to be on our best behavior and install a lock on the inside of the door. I trust us, but she needs to feel safe.” Clint is ranting as he paces the room.
“Fuck! Didn’t think of that. I’m gonna message Hunter and ask about her heat. I don’t wanna risk it. Maybe she can take suppressants while she’s here? It’s only a month, so it shouldn’t affect her cycle too badly. Right?” Tripp grabs his phone and his fingers fly over the screen before we hear the swoosh of his message being sent.
A few minutes later, while I’m dusting the woodwork in the room, his phone dings. I turn to look at him with a quirked brow.
“It’s him. He says he knew he made the right choice when calling us, and he has her on suppressants already, since she spends a lot of time at the compound with alphas.” Tripp fires off a response and then shoves the phone into his pocket. “I’m gonna go downstairs and get the mop ready.”
After I finish dusting, I leave the room so Tripp can mop, and Clint heads to his room to order some ‘omega necessities,’ as he called them. I have no idea what that means, but it’s his money, so I don’t care what he buys. Stepping into my room, I close the door and lay back on my bed.
This is already a clusterfuck, and the omega isn’t even here yet. I can only imagine how chaotic shit is gonna get when she’s here. I doubt she’s knowledgeable about ranch life since they live in the city, and I don’t care to spend my time teaching some city slicker omega how to help with chores.
Fuck, why did I have to be in a pack with my omega-obsessed cousins? I love the fuck out of them and I want an omega, too, but I don’t think this is the way. Maybe I’m wrong. A chuckle leaves me at that last thought.
