"Not another word from you, Mister President."

A cough that sounds suspiciously like laughter comes through the speaker.

"If Hunter came to you and said his little sister was scared and needed help, what would've happened?"

The answer takes exactly two seconds.

"I would've told him to help his sister."

"Exactly."

"We'll deal with Hunter later," a new voice says, and it sends a chill down my spine.

Acid.

Even through a phone speaker, the man somehow sounds terrifying.

"Autumn."

I sit up straighter, automatically.

"Sir Enforcer, sir."

"Are you telling Gidge that a prospect put hands on you?"

"Yes, sir."

A long pause follows.

"Send Gidge the address."

My stomach drops.

"Why?"

"We'll be there in a day or two."

I glance toward the backyard… toward the shed.

"Okay."

The call ends, and I stare at the phone for a second before lowering it. Nobody says anything, then Briggs holds out his hand.

"Can you hand me my phone? I’m gonna call Hunter."

I pass over his phone that was sitting on the coffee table, next to the couch.

Hunter answers before the second ring, and that alone irritates me.

Briggs doesn't waste time with pleasantries, or anything else.

"Peter's here and he tried to grab Autumn. He’s convinced she’s his omega, and he’s taking her home with him."

Silence.

I watch as Briggs listens, and the expression on his face never changes.

"No, we don't know how he got here. He’s been here a while, taking pictures of your sister and sending them to her. Stalking her."
