That shut him the fuck up, quick.
I pointed toward the hallway. “Do you know what is in my closet right now?”
He stared at me. “Gifts.”
“A fucking anniversary gift.”
“Blair.”
“I was at the store buying you a card.”
My voice cracked. “I was buying balloons.”
He closed his eyes briefly.
“And then I saw your wife. Do you understand how stupid that made me feel?”
“You’re not stupid.”
“I felt fucking stupid.”
“You’re not.”
“Then prove it.”
His eyes opened and I wiped beneath mine.
“File.”
He stared at me for several seconds then nodded. “Okay.”
I froze. “What?”
“I said okay.”
My anger eased a little. “Tomorrow?”
“I’ll call an attorney tomorrow.”
I searched his face.
“You promise?”
“Yes.”
Caleb stepped closer. “I told you I’m leaving that marriage.”
“Then leave it.”
“I am.”
“Legally.”
“Legally.”
He touched my face and I hated how quickly my body recognized him even when my mind didn’t trust him.
“I love you,” he said.
