“I am hosting an event.”

“You’re waiting on Nash.”

My head snapped toward her. “I am not.”

Klair smiled. “Are you nervous?”

“About what?”

“Nash coming.”

I smoothed my hand over the front of my dress. “No.”

“Blair.”

“It’s not a big deal.”

That was what I had told myself. Nash coming to the reveal didn’t mean anything. We had been seeing each other more. One particular night, we were outside my house when I was six seconds from asking him if he wanted to come inside. Then I remembered I had recently started birth control. I needed to let that shit settle into my system before I started making grown-woman decisions.

Nash had been hearing about that project almost since we’d met. I’d complained about delays, sent him pictures, and explained my vision. He listened to all of it, so when I told him about the reveal, he’d immediately said he wanted to come.

I immediately said no, then Klair got involved. Let the man come. Apparently it worked.

“It’s going to be packed,” I told her.

Klair looked around. “So?”

“So nobody’s going to be paying attention to who came with who.”

“He’s coming to support me.”

“Mhm.”

“That’s it.”

“Mhm.”

“Klair.”

She smiled. “I’m going to find something to do.”

“Please.”

By seven-thirty, the place was full. It was the perfect crowd with mostly new faces. That was when I’d finally convinced myself Nash coming wouldn’t matter. No one would know he was there for me because he could blend in.

Then he walked through the door and immediately looked for me. My stomach did that stupid little flip it had started doing whenever I saw him. He wore black slacks and a dark button-down with the sleeves rolled, exposing his forearms.

He made his way through the crowd. “Wow.”

I lifted my chin. “I know.”

He looked around. “You did this?”

“Most of it.”

“Blair.”

“What?”
