Her voice rose so quickly I flinched. “What the fuck are you talking about?”
I couldn’t answer.
Ravenna stepped closer. “You’re telling me my husband told you I knew he had a whole fucking girlfriend?”
The word sounded filthy coming out of her mouth.
“Yes.”
She stared at me for another second before laughing. “Wow.”
“He said you knew he talked to other women and you basically said the same—”
“Stop.” She held up her hand. “Don’t change my fucking words and what I said now because you’re embarrassed.”
I shut my mouth.
“I knew about ONE woman years ago, and it wasn’t you.”
My heart started beating harder. “What?”
“I caught him texting a woman, spending time with her, and being inappropriate. Whatever the fuck you want to call it.”
My mouth went dry.
“I told him I needed space to think because I wasn’t going to sit around looking stupid while my husband entertained another woman.”
She laughed bitterly. “So he begged.”
I stared at her.
“He begged me not to leave him and begged me to work on our marriage. And that’s what we did, even when I was away taking care of my father.”
The room shifted underneath my feet. “No.”
Ravenna’s eyebrows lifted. “There you go saying no to me about my own fucking marriage again.”
“He told me he moved out because he was preparing you for the divorce.”
Her mouth fell open. “Oh, this motherfucker is good. He has you believing the stupidest shit.”
I hated hearing her admiration in it, even the sarcastic admiration.
“He told me you couldn’t handle him leaving.”
“Baby, it’ll be a cold day in hell before I let myself get that low over him.”
I couldn’t breathe.
“He cried.”
I wanted her to stop.
“He called.”
Stop.
“He sent flowers.”
