“Just answer.”

I stared at her. “Really good.”

Klair slapped the counter. “AND YOU WANT TO LEAVE?”

I started laughing. “This is serious!”

“So am I! Do you know how many women are in group chats asking God for exactly what you are trying to throw away?”

“You don’t even date!”

“And even I know the dating economy is terrible!”

She opened her refrigerator. “You have a respectful, emotionally intelligent, employed, involved father with good dick.”

She pulled out a container. “And your complaint is that his ex-wife cheated?”

“My complaint is that I once helped someone cheat!”

“Correct.”

“For three years!”

“Correct.”

“He hates cheating!”

“Correct.”

“He’s going to hate me!”

Klair stopped and closed the refrigerator. “Ah.”

I looked away. “I don’t want to hear it.”

“No, that’s the real shit. You don’t want to protect Nash.”

“I do.”

“You want to protect yourself from finding out whether he’ll still want you.”

I stared at the floor.

She leaned against the counter. “You’re scared.”

“I am not scared.”

“Blair.”

“I’m being realistic.”

“You put professional language on your bullshit so it sounds responsible.”

I walked away. “I don’t have to stay here and be attacked.”

“Yes, you do. You came to me.”

I grabbed my purse. “I’m leaving.”
