“I am.”
“And we’re bringing both awards home.”
“I KNEW IT.”
I hugged him again when he confirmed that he’d been nominated for his category. He kissed me and for a while, everything was perfect. Wine in the middle of the day. Me sitting on the kitchen counter while Caleb stood between my legs talking shit about the other businessmen nominated in his category.
We laughed and celebrated. Everything felt like it was moving. Slowly, but moving.
I grabbed my phone. “I need a dress.”
Caleb took another sip. “You have a thousand dresses.”
I opened my browser. “I need something dramatic but classy.”
“Mhm.”
“Sexy but not thirsty.”
I looked up. “You’re not listening.”
“I am.”
“What did I say?”
“You need a dress.”
I threw a napkin at him. “What color are you wearing?”
He stopped laughing immediately. “What?”
“What color are you wearing?”
“I don’t know yet.”
“Okay, well, figure it out.”
“I’ve got a month.”
“Exactly. That’s basically tomorrow in custom-dress time.”
He reached for his glass and I started scrolling.
“What about emerald?”
“Nice.”
“Black?”
“Classic.”
“Burgundy?” I looked at him. “Burgundy could be cute. You could do a black tux with a burgundy—”
“Blair.”
Something in his voice made me stop. “What?”
He rubbed his thumb along the side of his glass. “About the awards.”
