“Blair, no.”

“I have to.”

“Because of him?”

“Because I can’t comfortably work inside your home anymore.”

Derek scoffed and Caren spun toward him. “Shut the fuck up.”

He did and Caren looked back at me. “What about the deposit?”

“We’ll calculate completed work and refund the unused portion.”

“Blair, this project is huge.”

“I know.”

And God, did I know, but I just couldn’t do it.

Caren stepped closer. “I’m sorry.”

I shook my head. “No.”

She frowned.

“You don’t owe me an apology because I refuse to ever know something about another woman’s relationship that she doesn’t know again.”

I got into my car and drove away. At the first red light, my phone rang through the speakers with a call from Janelle.

“You okay?”

“Yes.”

“What happened?”

“I dropped the Henderson project.”

“I’m sorry, bitch, did you say dropped?”

“Yes.”

“Blair.”

“I know.”

“That’s—”

“I know how much money it is.”

“Jesus Christ.”

I turned onto the main road.

“What did he do?”
