I shook my head.
“You are.”
“I don’t feel like it.”
“You don’t have to feel strong to be strong.”
I closed my eyes.
“You made one of the hardest decisions you’ll probably ever have to make.”
Her voice broke. “And I know it hurts.”
She kissed my forehead. “But Blair, you are still here. You still have a life. You still have choices.”
I opened my eyes and Klair stared directly into them. “You hear me?”
I nodded.
“No. Say it.”
“I hear you.”
“You made mistakes. Big fucking mistakes.”
A tiny laugh came out. “Thank you.”
“I’m not lying to you tonight.”
“I know.”
“But mistakes are not identities.”
She wiped beneath my eyes. “You can come out of this.”
I looked around the bathroom. “I don’t know how.”
“One decision at a time.”
She reached for my hand. “First, you’re getting off this floor.”
I let her pull me up and she wrapped an arm around my waist and helped me toward the bedroom.
I stopped in the hallway. “What if I still love him? What if that doesn’t just turn off?”
“It won’t.” Klair squeezed my hand. “But you can get there eventually if you try.”
She led me to the bed and climbed in beside me like we were kids again.
I stared into the dark. My body hurt, but my heart hurt worse.
“Blair.”
“Yeah?”
“Caleb just showed you who you are to him.”
I stopped breathing.
