“I think I wanted it.”

“I know.”

“I think I loved it.”

“I know.”

“I even talked to it.”

Her eyes filled. “I know.”

“How can both things be true?”

Her face broke. “Oh, Blair.”

“I think I wanted my baby and still…”

Klair wiped my cheeks. “Two things can be true.”

I shook my head. “No.”

“Yes. You can love what could’ve been and still know you couldn’t bring a child into what was.”

I cried. “I don’t know if I did the right thing.”

“You did the right thing for the information and circumstances you had.”

“But what if—”

“No. We’re not doing what-ifs.”

I stared at her and her own tears fell.

“You chose not to bring a child into instability.”

I swallowed.

“You chose not to create a human being hoping Caleb would magically become different because you had his baby.”

My face crumpled again. “He wanted me to terminate.”

“I know.”

“Then he left to go take care of her fucking plumbing.”

Klair’s jaw tightened. “What?”

I laughed hysterically. “Ravenna texted him asking when he was coming home.”

Klair closed her eyes. “Blair.”

“He said a pipe burst.”

“I don’t give a fuck if the whole house flooded.”

Klair held my face. “Look at me. I’m gonna say something and you’re probably going to hate me.”

“I already hate everybody.”
