I followed. “You have an apartment!”
“I know!”
“Is that why you’re barely there?”
“Blair— No!”
“SO WHY IS YOUR WIFE ASKING WHEN YOU’RE COMING HOME?!”
My body hurt, but I didn’t care.
Caleb looked at the message. “A pipe burst.”
I stared at him.
He spoke faster. “At the house… a pipe burst earlier. She called me because she didn’t know what to do and I told her I’d stop by.”
I just looked at him. “A fucking pipe.”
“Yes.”
“You told her you’re coming home.”
“I didn’t use that word.”
“She did.”
“Blair.”
My eyes stayed on him. The man I loved. The man who had sat beside me while I ended our pregnancy because the timing wasn’t right. Because Ravenna couldn’t handle it. Because we needed order. Because our story supposedly required chapters to close before new ones opened and now his wife was waiting for him at home. Over a fucking pipe.
“Get out.”
He froze. “Baby.”
“Get the fuck out.”
“You’re upset.”
“No shit.”
“You just had a procedure. I’m not leaving you like this.”
I stared into his eyes. “Go take care of your wife.”
“Blair.”
“GET OUT.”
My scream tore through the room and Caleb flinched. For once, I saw fear in his eyes.
He grabbed his phone. “I’ll call Klair.”
“Don’t.”
“I can’t leave you alone.”
“Get out before I start hitting you again or maybe something worse.”
