“Is Romeo strong enough to pull this off with Bogeyman’s help?” Sapphire barked.

“No. Not a chance in hell. There are too many of us. You thinking he knocked us out and brought us here?” Belladonna asked.

“Is it possible?” Sapphire pushed.

“Nope. Warden hasn’t got anyone who could pull a stunt like this.” Belladonna scratched her nose. “They are good, but I’m better.”

“It was just a thought,” Sapphire replied.

“Nice idea, but no, you can rule them out,” Belladonna stated firmly.

“Sorry,” I muttered.

Sapphire caught my hand. “How do you know about them?” she asked, noting my lack of surprise.

“You guys have mentioned them several times. And Soul is like Storm,” I replied with a shrug.

“You never said anything.”

“Sapphire, if I had, what would you have said? Oh, it’s club business,” I mocked. Sapphire wrinkled her nose before nodding.

“Hayden, you’ve been keeping secrets,” she murmured, but she wasn’t pissed. In fact, Sapphire looked reassured. A loud bang made us jump, and we glanced around.

“Since everyone’s here, what the fuck was that?” Maid demanded.

“That’s a damn good question,” Hatton agreed.

“Keep your eyes peeled for traps. This is beyond dangerous,” Sparrow warned.

“No shit?” Warrick teased.

“Got a problem?” Sparrow snapped.

“Nope. Not at all.” Warrick held his hands up.

“I hope the prospects are okay,” Sapphire murmured, and I realised they weren’t here.

“Shit,” I muttered. “Babe, I’m sure they’re safe. It wouldn’t make sense to strike at you through them.”

“No? Think about it. I couldn’t protect my motel and the people there. I couldn’t stop the clubhouse from being attacked. And I certainly hadn’t saved us from ending up here. Harming the prospects would be a great way to show me I can’t shield the weakest of my club.”

That hit home, and it became clear Sapphire was suffering. I pulled her in close. “Listen to me. You’re one of the strongest women I know. This was a planned attack. If you didn’t get a premonition, it’s because we beat this. We win. Not them. Hear me? Just believe in yourself.”

Sapphire offered me a weak smile, and we carried on heading into the dark, damp prison. We had to hit an exit soon.

This whole place was triggering my powers. The DNA crawling through it made me itch to cleanse it, but I barely held back. You’d expect a derelict building to be quiet. You wouldn’t be more wrong here. Sparrow’s head kept swivelling, and Nun was ready to murder someone. Having Blue away from her was frightening her, and she didn’t like it. Not even Priest could soothe her, though he looked murderous too.

When Sapphire and the others arrived, we breathed a sigh of relief. We could head for Twilight’s group and reassure Nun that Blue was okay. The telepathic link wasn’t doing it for her. As soon as we found them, Nun was petting Blue, who was busy reassuring her and Priest he was fine.

“What now?” I asked.

“We’re leaving. Then we’re going to track down whoever did this and make them pay,” Nun ground out.

Hatton coughed, and Nun sent him a dark look. “In blood,” she added, stroking each of her men.

“We’ll do it by the book,” Hatton declared.
