Pulling me down on his lap, he hisses as my cold fingers touch his chest, and then wraps both of the blankets around us, as I tuck my head under his chin, and he rests his head on my wet, probably filthy hair.

Chapter Three

Ever

“How’re you feeling?” Luc asks with a smile as he comes into the room with his medical bag, the others looking worried and trailing behind him.

“Honestly, much better now I’ve warmed up a bit. I do think that I might have a concussion though, and my head's bleeding, or it was. I don’t know if it still is. The rest of me is just bruised and scraped up, nothing major,” I explain honestly, grateful that my head is clearer than it was. My eyes search for Rage, and when I don’t find him, I ask, “Is Tank okay? Has Rage gone to find him? He got scared when the thunder got really loud and bolted.”

The guys share a concerned look.

“Sweetheart, Tank came and got us, we told you, remember?” Trick asks gently. “Rage and Cash have taken him back up to the barn to make sure that he’s safe. They should be back any moment.”

I frown. I do remember now that he’s said it, but I didn’t remember a moment ago.

“Everything is a bit fuzzy,” I admit with a grimace.

“Alright, let me just check you over, and then you can go and shower and change,” Luc says with a smile.

In another life, he would have made a fantastic doctor. He’s got that perfectly calm and reassuring doctor's bedside manner.

“I’m going to go and check your soup,” Rafe says with a soft smile.

I smile gratefully. “Thank you, that sounds amazing right now.” As he moves to the kitchen, my eyes catch on Pete. “Pete, you didn’t have to come up, it’s super late.”

Pete gnaws on his lip with a worried frown, drawing down his eyebrows.

“Pete came with us to find you, Sweetheart,” Trick says, looking just as worried.

“Ah shit,” I curse. “I’m sorry. Thank you.”

Pete smiles, but it has a wobble to it as he says, “That’s okay. Just let Luc check you out.” He tries to smirk as he adds, “You’re sounding crazier than usual. I’m going to fill Jynx and Lyric in.”

“Don’t worry, Lyric, she’s super anxious at the moment,” I say immediately.

Thank fuck I remembered that.

I am not a fan of this. It’s absolutely horrible.

“Shit, good point. I won’t tell her. Fortunately, I only managed to message Jynx before we left,” he mutters as he pulls out his phone.

The guys all move to do things so that they’re still within hearing distance, but they aren’t all staring at me while Luc does his thing.

I have to admit that I sort of just go through the motions, I’ve had this check for a concussion multiple times now, so I know what to expect.

“Okay,” Luc says, looking far more relaxed now that he’s checked me out than he did when he first started. “So you do have a concussion, and there’s a bump on your head. It doesn’t need stitches, and I’ve cleaned the wound, but it’s going to hurt for a while. The concussion isn’t too severe, and while I think it contributed to your confusion, I think the storm also helped with that. I don’t want you to go to sleep for at least an hour, and then I will be waking you up every hour just to check in and make sure you’re heading in the right direction. If at any point I feel like you’re heading in the wrong direction, then I’ll take you to the nearest organization hospital. I know how much you hate going to hospitals though, and I’m quite capable of managing it here.”

I nod and then wince slightly as the movement causes pain to shoot through my head. “Thank you. I’m already feeling a bit more clear-headed now that I’m warming up.”

Luc smiles and leans forward to kiss me. “Good. I’m glad. When you’re feeling up to it, you can go and take a shower and get some comfy clothes on, but I’m going to insist that someone goes with you, just in case.”

I smirk, “You just want to see me naked.”

Jensen chuckles from behind me, while Luc grins and says, “Under normal circumstances, abso-fucking-lutely, right now though, it’s purely a safety thing.”

Jensen shifts underneath me and then stands up with me still in his arms as if I weigh nothing. “Come on, I could use a shower now anyway, and I’ll never turn down the opportunity to shower with you.”

Luc grins, “I’ll get the guys to get some blankets and things, and we can watch our show while we keep an eye on you. I imagine that the others aren’t going to want you out of their sight tonight.”
