“You want to know what will be hotter?”

I nod, not able to form words as he does it again.

“When you’re licking yourself off my cock.”

Well that’s a glorious picture.

I’m about to roll over and drop to my knees so we can get to that part of the evening, when something crashes in East’s room, pulling both our attention.

A girl lets out a scream that is either the most intense orgasm I’ve ever heard, or she’s dying. When it doesn’t end, I assume it’s the former. Until the sound of breaking furniture has Shane grumbling.

I burst out laughing when the mood is officially ruined.

“Fucking hell, I’m going to kill him,” Shane grumbles, jumping out of bed, throwing a T-shirt on, and adjusting his hard cock. “I’ve had enough of this shit.”

“Please don’t kill him. He’s having fun.” I laugh at Shane’s irritation.

“Well this is what he gets for ruining mine.”

Shane storms out of the room, and I giggle as I hear him bang on East’s door. From the sound of it, East didn’t bother dressing before answering, which sets Shane off more.

Rolling onto my side, I close my eyes and smile as they argue in the hallway. At some point, Aiden must come out of his room because I hear him join in on the conversation. To anyone else, this is probably chaos. But as I settle into the sheets, I close my eyes and let the safety of being in Shane’s bed rock me to sleep.

HARLOE

I was asleep before Shane returned to bed last night. The moment he left me alone in the sheets, exhaustion pulled me under. It’s like he worked all the tension from my body, and the second I relaxed, I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

By the time I woke, Shane was already gone. And just like before, he left me a note on the dresser to tell me where he went.

Cowgirl,

Thought about waking you up, but clearly, I wore you out last night, so I figured you could use the recovery time. If not, and you’re just lying there with your eyes closed right now waiting for me to leave, then don’t tell me. Let me live in this delusion a bit longer.

Kincaid needs help moving a new piece of equipment, then I’m swinging through town to check on my bike.

East is alive, but only because you made me promise not to kill him.

Text me when you’re up.

x Shane

I set the paper on the dresser with a smile. Shane might talk dirty between the sheets and be lethal to his enemies, but there’s a sweet side that comes out when it’s just the two of us. Like the fact that he could have sent this in a text but leaves me notes on the dresser instead.

The bunkhouse is empty, so I take my time cooking breakfast and drinking coffee. I sit on the porch, scrolling through the family text thread to see what my brothers are doing today.

Liam is organizing a fundraiser at the firehouse.

Asher is helping Dad fix a loose board on his front porch.

Will is working around the ranch as he always is.

Since coming home, I haven’t spent much time at my family’s ranch. Maybe I felt like I didn’t deserve to be there after everything that happened around the time I left town. But as I sit, sipping my coffee and looking out at Ironside Ridge, I realize just how much I miss home.

Sunrises over the pasture.

The chorus of cattle.
