I rolled my eyes at that but also laughed. She wasn’t wrong, but thanks to my ill-fated curse I’d never tried to get close to a guy since. With all the chaos in my life, I didn’t need to drag a partner into it.

Just a reminder of that cursed day sent a shiver down my spine. The screams, the smoke… all of it blamed on me.

I shoved those memories down before they could surface, refusing to let them take hold.
