“What is it?”
“Who,” I corrected. “A shifter. They’re definitely my match but I don’t think they noticed me.”
“I’m not surprised in this crowd,” he reassured me. “He’ll find you. It’s a small town.”
“It is,” I agreed, even as I knew the crowd had nothing to do with it. Maybe he had the same curse insecurities I did. If my mates hadn’t crashed into my life the way they did I might have done the same.
Except… I just stalked him out here. Maybe my omega was closer to the surface than I realized.
“Come on, let’s go eat before it’s cold. Rook’s dropping Blake’s things off to her and snagging us a seat.”
I let him lead me back inside. My gaze went back to the woods one last time and I swear I saw a flash of glowing eyes before they were gone again.
Maybe he did know and was just shy?
My alpha was content that Prue finally claimed me out loud. Especially in front of the entire town.
This bazaar was interesting for sure, there were so many cursed in one place and it didn't faze anyone when something wacky happened.
Well, other than that Webb guy. I think that someone flying would always startle people.
On my way to hand Blake her treats, my attention caught on a group of kids standing around watching as a teen changed her hair at will until it all fell out and that scared them enough to scream and run off. The teen girl giggled as it started to grow back. I had a feeling that was one curse that she used to amuse herself.
An alpha was juggling nearby on a small stand, everyone watching as the balls transformed in shape, color, and texture. Then all at once they fell and clonked him in the head. My heart stopped and I started to move forward before he stood up and grinned, ready to go again. It was strange that they played into their curses even though they were hurt by them.
I greeted Prue's best friend with a smile and goodies. Her face lit up and she only had eyes for the food.
"Oh my goddess, you are a lifesaver. I have to pee. Like my eyeballs are floating."
"That was not a visual that I needed right now," I joked as I set her food and drink down. “Go, I'll man the stand and tell everyone that you will be right back."
"Thank you," she said from over her shoulder as she ran off towards the port-a-potties at a full sprint.
Man, she must have really had to go to enter those things.
No one bothered to approach me as I waited. I even had a smile on my face but I kept getting those curious ‘newcomer’ looks from everyone instead.
Even being away from my omega for a little bit of time was driving me crazy. Merrick had her so that was the only reason I’d done this. Mainly because I knew damn well Prue would kick our asses for not feeding her bestie.
The first customers to approach were two older women. They were eyeing me more than what was on the table. I wasn’t sure if it was more of that curiosity of a new face or something else.
I cleared my throat and put on a charming smile. "Can I help you lovely ladies with anything?"
"Your phone number?" the one on the left said. She’d gone out with curlers in her hair and a net keeping them in place.
"Umm, I'm sorry. That's not on the table and I have a mate," I replied quickly, trying not to keep eye contact with her for too long.
"Can't blame me for trying, can ya?" she smiled and her friend elbowed her.
"Stop it, you're making him turn red," the one in the floral moo-moo told her before turning to me. "Don't mind her, she's harmless."
"Elise and Ruth, leave this poor man alone. Prue will send you a cursed artifact if you don't," Blake warned as she rushed back over, giving them the stink eye. They were completely unrepentant now as they finally started browsing their antiques.
"She wouldn't really do that, would she?" I asked Blake. She just shrugged as she took a big sip of her Phantom Fizz.
Once she swallowed it, she looked back up at me. "Go back to Prue. She needs a night out. That omega is all work and curses, fun is much needed."
I gave her a little salute and headed back towards my mate.
