“How did he die?” I ask. “Guards killed Gabriel? How?”

“He was shot by the guards,” Green tells me.

“I… think I need therapy,” I admit. “This is all just… a lot.”

“I know the psychiatrist on call today,” Green tells me. “I trust him. He can come by and talk to you, and then you two can set something up in person if you’d like?”

“That would be good,” I say with a heavy sigh.

“I’m going to make them leave,” Sadie says. “Liam, take care of my girl.”

“Thank you,” I say as Sadie leans down to hug me.

“Always, baby,” she says, kissing my cheeks. “Get some rest, scrambled eggs.”

“What?” I ask.

“Scrambled eggs,” she repeats with a grin. “You know… your brain is all scrambled… like an egg?”

“Oh…” I say, laughing. “Bye, guys.”

When they leave, I lean forward to rest my head on Liam’s chest. He wraps his arms around me and kisses the top of my head. “I’m glad you’re okay,” I whisper. “I missed you so much…”

“I’m right here, baby. I’m not going anywhere,” he says, holding me as he gently rocks me back and forth.

The door opens, and I sit up to see who it is. “Afternoon, Nora,” he says with a kind smile, and my eyes widen when I recognize him. “I am Dr. Carter.”

What the fuck?
