Not all of it, anyway.
The barrel of her shotgun stops at my chest. “Off our land, Harrington.”
Wind blows strands of black hair across her face, catching in her lashes. She doesn’t blink. Even half-blinded, she keeps the barrel steady.
“Great to see you again, Sera.” My gaze drags over her. “I see you’ve still got that hostile Tallon bite.”
Her navy-blue irises are almost swallowed by dilated pupils.
“Yeah,” she says, finger resting near the trigger, “and this time I’m the one with a gun.”
The rough scrape of her voice pulls last night to the surface.
Wet mud beneath her back. Rain running down her face. Her pulse thrumming beneath my grip while she wrestled under me, every twist of her body dragging her against my cock.
Her stance holds, but her breathing changes when I drag my tongue across my lower lip.
Interesting.
Apparently, I’m not the only one remembering.
“I’m not here to finish what we started.” I stare right at her, not flinching at the threat, “just here to collect my sister.”
Saint moves toward me, and I turn my chest away from Sera’s aim.
“You’re not welcome in my yard, Harrington.”
I look past him to where Keira waits, jacket buttoned now, arms folded in close to her stomach.
She spent the last year in France rebelling against our father’s expectations, and now she’s staring at Saint Tallon like he’s her whole world.
“Seems like you enjoyed having my sister around.”
Saint’s jaw muscles clench.
“You’ve got three seconds,” he says, “to turn around and get the fuck outta here.”
He moves in front of me, blocking my view of Keira, placing himself between us without thinking about it. I’m here to take her home, and he’s already making moves to stop me.
How tragic for him.
“She’s a good girl, isn’t she?” I check my watch again. “The one you never thought would be the threat.”
When Sera clears her throat, it breaks my focus. I glance at her for a racing heartbeat before returning my attention to her big brother.
“How long has she been here now?” I ask. “Long enough to learn everything about you, your family, your business…”
Saint’s brow creases.
“She’s locked it all away and won’t hesitate to tell her daddy every single weakness you have, Tallon,” I continue. “Just like we were trained to do if we were ever taken. He’d stall, and she’d watch.”
His eyes narrow, and he folds his arms over his chest, widening his stance.
Keira’s face loses color. She remembers the lessons our father drilled into us years ago, preparing us for the day one of his enemies tried something this stupid.
Saint shakes his head. “You’re full of shit.”
I laugh.
