“You make me crazy,” I tell her.

Jess makes a breathy sound in her throat. “There’s no audience now. You can stop kissing my neck.”

“Why would I do something like that? I’m doing exactly what I’ve been wanting to do all night.”

I’m doing my best not to picture her naked and pressed up against me in this elevator, but the images keep flashing through my head. My lips meet hers again, and I find myself wishing we were in the privacy of our room instead. She might act disinterested in me, but we’re electric when we’re together. This proves it.

“Excuse me, folks,” says a male voice over the speaker. “Is everyone alright?”

Jess’s hands move to my shoulders, and I feel a gentle push as she tries to distance herself from me. Unwilling to stop my gentle assault, I move my lips back to her neck.

“Dax, knock it off,” she whispers frantically.

Sighing, I lift my head marginally and say loudly, “Yes, we’re just fine in here. No problem with the elevator. Thank you.”

I grip the back of Jess’s head and try to pull her to me again. For a moment, I think she’s going to let me kiss her again.

But the same obnoxious voice clears his throat. Before speaking again. “Thank you for confirming that all is okay.”

There’s a pause, and I begin to hope the elevator security guy is gone. Unfortunately, luck isn’t on my side. “Sir, you do realize there are security cameras in this elevator, right?”

I pause for a second, and then a low chuckle escapes my throat.

Jess pushes hard on my chest. “Oh my God. Get away, Dax,” she says through clenched teeth.

Sighing even more dramatically this time, I stand up straight and push the button to allow the doors to open. I glare up at the camera. “Thank you ever so much for your very fortuitous timing,” I say sarcastically.

“You’re most welcome, sir. Enjoy your evening,” says the overly jovial voice from the speaker. Sadistic cock blocking bastard knew exactly what he was doing.

Jess stomps out of the elevator. She wraps her arms around her waist as she waits impatiently for me to unlock and open the door.

Knowing there is another camera inside, I don’t open the door immediately. Instead, I put my hand on her shoulder. “You know, there’s no reason we can’t continue what we started.”

“And why would we do that?” she asks frostily. “It was all an act for the camera. I don’t even like you.”

“Keep on telling yourself that.”

She juts her chin forward. “I don’t have to tell myself that. I know it. This is all getting out of hand. No more kissing going forward. At all.” She motions impatiently for me to open the door.

“Babe, we have to kiss. It’s part of the deal,” I say reasonably.

“You know what I mean! No more tongues or touching or any of that stuff. I mean it, Dax.” She pauses. “And don’t call me babe. I’m not your babe or baby or sweet thing or whatever.”

She’s so flustered and cute. No more tongues or touching? I’m tempted to remind her that she’s been a very willing participant in every one of our encounters. Somehow, I don’t think that’ll go over too well. She’s pretty fired up over getting caught in the elevator. I can only imagine what she’d be like in bed. Would her cheeks be flushed like they are now? Oh yeah, I bet they would.

She doesn’t know it, but she and I are destined to end up in bed together, and not just to sleep. It’s just a matter of time.

Chapter 9: Colorado Springs, Colorado

Jess

Two can play this game. If he thinks I’m going to just jump into bed with him, he’s delusional. I’m not some horny, desperate woman who will take any man who comes my way. I have self-control and plenty of it.

If all of that wasn’t bad enough, today is turning into a real shitstorm. Not only did we wake up to a torrential downpour, but also to a flat tire. Just when I thought we would be completely screwed, Dax surprised me by rolling up his sleeves and getting to work. Luckily, we had a spare tire in the back of the car. He made quick work of changing the tire and getting us fully operational.

Who would’ve thought a spoiled billionaire would get in there and change a tire like that? Not me, that’s for sure.

By the time he was done, he was soaked completely through, and the other contestants had a thirty-minute head start.
