“I’ll put pillows between us, just like in the movies. It’s a huge bed. I promise to keep my hands to myself,” Dax says reasonably.
“It’s not your hands I’m worried about.”
He smirks at me. “Fine. I’ll keep my ginormous King Kong dong on my side of the bed. It usually hogs the entire bed, but I’ll have a little talk with it and tell it to respect your space.”
“King Kong dong? Guys who exaggerate their size are usually hiding something. You sure you don’t mean your micropenis?”
He gets a thoughtful look on his face. Then he holds up his index finger in the air as though trying to count how many inches it would be. Then, he smiles and shakes his head vigorously. “Micropenis? I don’t think so. You didn’t seem to mind the size so much when you tried to have your way with me in the ocean.”
“You’re right.” I shrug. “I was pretty hot and heavy into you until I felt your, ummm . . . manhood up against me. Did you wonder why I left so quickly? It’s because I was embarrassed for you. Must be difficult to go through life with your little deficiency.”
Dax crosses his arms over his chest and gives me a cocky grin. His eyes narrow in challenge. “Since you’re so quick to disparage my poor micromanhood, it’s only fair you give it a chance to prove you wrong. I bet you’re too scared.”
Unwillingly, my eyes drift downward to the obvious bulge in his pants. Clearly, he’s turned on by this ridiculous conversation. And also, clearly, he doesn’t have a micro anything.
Never one to back down from a challenge, I take a couple steps closer to him.
“I’m not scared at all. I just don’t want to waste my time with someone who wouldn’t be able to satisfy me.”
He walks closer to me and stops when we’re barely a breath apart. He reaches out and uses his index finger to tilt my chin up. His mouth is inches from mine. “Babe, you talk too much. I can think of so many other things your mouth could be doing right now.”
A thrill of excitement races through my blood, but I fight against it. To give in to Dax for a one-night stand would be the worst kind of mistake. I already have one colossal mistake I’m trying to fix, and it’s the entire reason I’m here now. One night of sexual gratification is not worth the mess it would leave behind.
I reach down between us and run my finger softly over Dax’s hardened length, and I feel his body jump in response. His eyes darken, and I know he’s about to kiss me. I put my hands onto his shoulders for balance and then lift up onto my tiptoes. My lips are up against his left ear as I whisper, “I can tell you want me. But, news flash, stud. I’m not interested. Not now, not tomorrow, and not ever. It’s never going to happen. I’m not attracted to you. Not even a little bit.”
I plant my feet firmly onto the ground and tilt my head back to see his response. The bemused look in his eyes gives me an indescribable satisfaction.
It’s about time someone put Dax Anders in his place, and I’m pretty damn happy I was the one to do it. God’s gift to women is going to have to find another girl to kill time with in the bedroom. Cuz it sure as hell isn’t going to be me.
Chapter 8
Dax
I think I’m in love.
Okay, not actually. But I’m sure as hell in lust, and damn, that woman is making me abso-fucking-lutely crazy. Micropenis? I want to laugh and cry at the same time. I still can’t believe she had the nerve to say that to me last night.
I’m freaking Dax Anders. Women love me. I quirk my little finger at them, and they come running. Oh, I don’t think it’s because I’m anything special. They’re attracted to me because of my bank account and that stupid magazine toting me as the most eligible bachelor. Those women only want two things . . . fame and money.
But not Jess. She’s not like other women. She doesn’t even want to be in the same room as me. If fate hadn’t brought us together, she never would’ve given me the time of day. And maybe that’s what intrigues me the most. I find a woman I’m insanely attracted to, and she wants nothing to do with me.
Is that why I’m so attracted to her? Is it the chase? That she doesn’t throw herself at me, and so I like the challenge? Whatever it is, it’s damn annoying.
Oh, and those smug looks she gave me last night . . . On anyone else, it would’ve pissed me off. But on Jess, it just made me hotter and hotter for her. That cold shower last night did nothing to calm my raging hormones, nor did it provide any relief to the painful situation with my hard-as-a-fucking-rock dick. And then I was forced to sleep in the same bed as her. All. Damn. Night. I didn’t get a bit of sleep, and it’s all her fault. There was no way I was going to back down and give her the bed after what happened.
Okay, well, maybe she did win. If her light snoring was any indication, she seemed to get plenty of sleep last night, unlike me. I spent the night glaring at the pillows that she piled up in the middle of the bed in between us.
I’m currently fighting the urge to grind my teeth as I hear her humming in the bathroom. I made the very unwise choice to suggest we spend the day together, so she’s busy getting ready. And now Positive Polly is fully rested and ready to take on the day. She’s completely forgotten about our little whatever-that-was last night. Whereas I’m grumpy, which seems to be my usual state of mind over the last several weeks. So much for this vacation getting me out of my funk.
“Hey, Dax. Are you ready to go?” Jess calls out from the bathroom in a jubilant voice.
I was ready an hour ago, but who’s counting? My ass is beginning to grow mold, it’s been sitting here so long. “Yes, I’m ready. No rush if you need more time,” I say sweetly.
Jess comes out of the bathroom, looking wide-eyed and not at all sleep-deprived. She’s wearing cut-off jean shorts that show off miles of beautifully tanned legs and a light-pink halter top. She finishes putting on her dangly earrings and then grabs her handbag near the door. “Well, come on. I want to get an early start. It’s a beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky.”
An early start? She slept in and then took forever to get ready, and now she wants an early start? My look of disbelief goes right over her head. “Of course. I don’t want to delay us any longer,” I say with the barest hint of sarcasm.
Her eyes narrow on me. “Are you feeling okay?”
