“I want to ride you.”

He pulls out, twists me around, and tosses me over his shoulder. I giggle, gasping for breath as he carries me onto the bed. I’m placed on a pile of pillows near the headboard as he lies beside me.

His eyes shine. The greens are clear and vibrant, alive and … happy. It does something to my chest because I find myself leaning forward to kiss him—something I don’t do a lot of when we’re fucking.

Finn seems to register this strange little fact, because he pulls me into him as I kiss him.

It couldn’t be more night and day from thirty seconds ago. On the chair, it was absolutely fucking. A means to a very satisfying end. But now? He’s holding me. I can feel his heartbeat against my palm.

And I have a strange ache in my chest that, instead of making me want to pull away from him, pushes me to kiss him harder.

He takes my hands and steadies me as I straddle him. Our eye contact never breaks as I position myself over him and take his cock inch by inch into my pussy.

I don’t move. I just sit with him filling me, letting the fullness register. He takes my hands in his again, lacing our fingers together, and smiles.

“Tell me what you want,” I say softly, not sure what I even mean.

He lifts to press a simple kiss to the center of my mouth. “I just want you to be happy, Poppy Quinn.”

Oh. The sincerity in his tone and the honesty in his eyes kill me. A lump settles in the back of my throat, and I can’t respond. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know how not to make it weird. So I do the only thing I know how to do, which is show him how I feel.

I move, but it’s in much the same way he kissed me tonight. Slowly. Leisurely. Like we have all the time in the world.

Although Sunny could wake up and the morning will come a lot faster than either of us would like, we do have time. And instead of the idea panicking me, it soothes me.

I’m not sure why, but I have a feeling that it’s going to be okay.

I’m safe here, in his arms. And this is the first time I’ve ever let myself feel it.

Being the future fake Mrs. Finn Miller has its perks.

This is definitely one of them.

For as long as this adventure lasts, anyway.

CHAPTER

TWENTY-ONE

Poppy

“Give me another one,” I say, opening my mouth.

Finn’s hand rustles inside the bag before dropping a piece of freeze-dried candy onto my tongue.

Moonlight streams through the windows, thanks to the open curtains and blinds. Shadows dance along the walls as tree limbs blow in the breeze outside. The candles Finn lit around the bathtub earlier flicker in the adjoining en suite, scenting the air with vanilla and lavender. I couldn’t be more relaxed if I tried.

“What about this one?” Finn asks, opening an email on the computer on his lap.

I squint into the brightness radiating from the screen. “What is it?”

“It’s from a mattress company. I’m trying to find the details.”

“Don’t bother.” I crunch the fruit-flavored ball, resting my cheek against his bare chest. “It’s a no.”

He chuckles. “That fast?”

“Yup.”
