He sips his drink, smirking. “No. Why?”
I hold my head, taking a seat at the table. He sits across from me.
“I’m going to need you to back up,” I say. “What’s going on?”
“Well, I retired, like I said.”
My heart sinks. “It wasn’t because of me, was it? Did something happen? Oh, Finn. I’m sorry.”
“Sorry to burst your ego, but it had nothing to do with you. It was just time that I moved on to other things. My heart isn’t in it anymore.”
Okay. That’s better. I think.
“Now that I don’t have a job and haven’t found a hobby to replace it yet—Branch was just telling me this is important, so I need to find something soon—I thought I’d hang out with you today,” he says.
He’s way too happy about this. Too nonchalant to have just quit the team.
I narrow my eyes, trying to figure him out.
“It’s okay that I’m here, right?” He sets his mug down. “If you want me to go, I will. You just said you wanted some space last night, and I thought, technically speaking, that would end at dawn.” He half grins, pointing out the window. “It’s past dawn.”
I settle back, crossing my arms over my chest. “You can stay.”
“Great.” He glances at my finger. “You’re still wearing your ring, at least.”
I wiggle my fingers at him. I did wonder for about thirty seconds if I should’ve taken it off. Technically speaking, it was because of Exposé and then the subsequent team branding that we faked our engagement. But when I saw the relief on his face as he saw the ring on my finger, I knew he wanted it there.
I think.
I fucking hope.
“Of course, I am. I had to take it off while I cleaned because it’s like lifting a weight. But it felt weird with it off.”
“That’s good.”
I grin. “You think so?”
He grins, too. “I do. Now that’s settled, how did the processing go last night?”
“What do you mean?”
“Did you process all of this? Because I did. And unsurprisingly, I feel the same way I did yesterday.”
My chest warms as I take in the steadiness of his gaze. Of course, he showed up here this morning ready to work things out. He wouldn’t be Finn if he didn’t.
“You said we need to know whatever happens next happens because we want it to,” he says. “I know what I want to happen. I just need to know if you’re on board.”
I’m not quite sure what he means, only that he’s so fucking cute. The mischief in his eyes makes me so happy. My Finn is back.
My Finn.
He really is mine.
“Come on, Pop. You’re killing me.”
I shrug, laughing. “I don’t know what you’re after.”
He groans playfully. “Did you make a decision? I told you that I did. I told you that I feel the same way today that I did yesterday.” He makes a face as if he’s urging me to respond.
