This motherfucker put our woman in danger, and it’s clear he’s as desperate as I am to exact our revenge.

“Need any help?”

I shake my head. “I have it handled. How’s cleanup going?”

“They have it handled. Never seen two guys less affected by death if I’m honest.” He chuckles. “They’ve been discussing baseball scores while throwing bodies in the back of vans like they’re at a bar having a drink.”

I smirk. “Wait until you meet Enzo.”

Each of the guys has their own strengths, but Enzo’s is being cold and unfeeling, much like I was before Chloe came along.

“Kingston’s taking a while.”

I frown and glance toward the entrance to the motel.

I’ve been so caught up in securing Vega that I lost track of time, but he’s right. It’s been at least ten minutes since King took off to find Chloe and Damon, and my stomach rolls with an unfamiliar emotion.

Anxiety.

I attach Sebastian’s bound wrists to the inside of the trunk and slam it closed on him before he can whine about it.

If he didn’t want to be tortured, maybe he should have thought twice about putting my woman in danger.

Turning on my heel, I stride toward the road with Ronan falling in step beside me. He doesn’t have to say a word for me to know he’s feeling every bit of worry I am, perhaps more.

He knows what it’s like to live without her more than any of us, and I have a feeling he’ll be on edge until she’s back in his arms.

I glance up and down the dark road, half expecting to see the cops speeding down the quiet stretch, but there’s nothing more than a few streetlights.

Ronan stops in his tracks as we cross the street, but it takes me a second to realize what he’s looking at.

Or rather, who.

Kingston kneels on the edge of the road with his head dropped low and his body trembling uncontrollably.

The sight alone is enough to make my lungs constrict, and I struggle to drag in a breath.

Because it’s almost impossible to bring a man like Kingston Beaumont to his knees, and that can only mean one thing.

Chloe’s gone.

CHAPTER SEVEN

CHLOE

NOW

I’m not sure if the pain has eased or if I’m just getting used to it.

Or perhaps it’s the fact I’m staring at Mikayla Vega as she looks down on Damon and me.

You know what? It’s probably a combination of all three.

I don’t know enough about what ended their engagement to understand how we’ve found ourselves in this position.

Why wasn’t I nosy enough to ask why the wedding didn’t go ahead?

And why the hell does she think I had anything to do with it?
