As the door swung closed behind us, all three of them focused on me. James reached his chubby arms in my direction, repeating, “Ma, Ma, Ma,” over and over until I took him from Luca and kissed his sweet head.

I cleared my throat. “I need to confess something and I’m really scared you’re all going to be mad at me.”

Dax snorted. “If it’s that you were the one who left the milk out last night and let it go bad, it’s fine.”

I shook my head. “No, that was definitely Luca.”

He shot me a look. “Thanks for that.”

But he didn’t deny it.

I wiped one sweaty palm on the side of my hip. “No, what I’ve done is way worse.”

True concern appeared in Lynx’s expression. “You had your checkup yesterday and you said the baby is fine…

I grimaced, quickly clarifying, because the last thing I wanted was to scare them. “The baby is fine. But while I was there, I might have, accidentally, signed some forms…”

Luca cocked his head to one side. “If you’re telling me you sold our house at your OB/GYN appointment, I’m going to say it was a pretty dodgy place to do a deal.”

I slapped his arm and laughed. “Stop. I’m trying to be serious. I did a really bad thing!”

Dax put his arm around my shoulders and kissed the top of my head. “I doubt it. But tell us what you did.”

They all stared at me.

“I asked the doctor to find out the sex and paternity of the baby.”

Lynx squinted at me. “We did those blood tests ages ago, but I thought we decided we didn’t want to know and that it didn’t matter.”

“That’s why I’m awful!” I wailed. “I shouldn’t have done it.” I grabbed his arm. “But Lynx? I swear to God, it was killing me not knowing. Like, keeping me up at night, can’t eat, can’t think straight. I couldn’t stand the mystery! I was going to self-combust.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Wow. Dramatic much?”

“Yes!”

He laughed.

Dax eyed me. “So you know right now if it’s a boy or a girl, and you know who the father is.”

I nodded, biting my lip. “I do, and you all have every right to hate me. We agreed we weren’t going to find out the results, but they were right there on her file, and I just caved.”

“Weakling,” Luca taunted.

I flipped him off, but he caught my finger and brought it to his lips to kiss the tip.

“Come on then. Tell us.”

I glanced at Lynx and Dax, who both suddenly looked excited. They both nodded.

Lucky, ’cause I couldn’t keep it in a second longer. “It’s a girl!”

I’d never seen three smiles widen so fast. In a second, I was crushed between the three of them, James laughing at being squished in the middle of his daddies.

Luca grinned. “We have a little boy and a baby girl. Fuck. That’s about the coolest thing ever.” He realized I hadn’t told him all of the results. “Who’s the father?”

I scrunched up my face, then peered at them through one eye. “Dax is.”

Luca groaned. “You gotta be kidding me! He got another one?”
