And then I kiss her.
I don’t think about the spell or the moon, or whether this technically qualifies as the final step. I don’t think about anything, because Flora makes this small, broken sound against my mouth and reaches for me at the same time, one hand catching the front of my coat while the other slides around my neck.
I pull her closer.
A gust of wind rushes across the overlook, catching our coats and sending our hair everywhere. Somewhere in the vicinity, there’s a whistle, followed by a few claps.
Flora breaks the kiss with a startled laugh as a small cheer rises from the people gathered along the railing.
“Oh my god,” I whisper, immediately hiding my face in her neck.
She’s still laughing when I look at her again, her hair wild from the wind, the moon bright behind her and the whole city glittering below.
For one ridiculous, perfect second, she looks like magic.
Flora brushes my hair away from my face. “True love’s kiss.”
I smile against her mouth. “True love’s kiss, indeed.”
CHAPTER 46
FLORA
“Okay,” Merry says from the kitchen, phone in hand, “how does this sound?”
I stop typing the reply to a new spell that came in this morning. This time, it’s a more basic one—a request for abundance after the customer was laid off a few months ago.
“Five stars.”
I push my chair away from the desk and get up. “Merry.”
She looks up at me with her eyes shining and a sneaky smile on her lips. She’s wearing the new pajama pants Rose shipped to her from wherever she is now and one of my old sweatshirts, even though she has at least three perfectly new ones in the bottom of her dresser drawer. Her hair is still messy from sleep, and there’s a mug of coffee cooling on the counter beside her.
It’s Saturday morning. Neither of us has anywhere to be until later, and Merry has decided that this is how she wants to spend our morning together.
“What?” she asks, and she tilts her head to the side and gives me the most innocent smile I’ve yet seen from her. “I’m leaving you a review, baby. Is that okay?”
I walk toward the kitchen. “Why?”
“Because I received a service and Whisp has been asking me to review it for months. Frankly, I’ve been negligent.”
My lips quirk involuntarily. She catches the movement, and her smile widens.
“You received a refund, linda.”
“That doesn’t erase the customer experience.”
“Merry.”
She lifts the phone high up above her head the moment she sees me take a step. It’s well out of my reach before I’ve even tried to take it.
“Would you like to hear the rest?”
“No.”
“Great.” She clears her throat. “Don’t be fooled by her non-refundable policy. She absolutely does refunds if she falls in love with you.”
I stare at her, and god, I fucking love her.
