“Nobody said anything to me about cover stories.” Citi looks confused.
“That’s because the rest of us aren’t as nuts as your sister.” Delphi sighs.
“I resent that,” Neveah sniffs, though she doesn’t deny it.
“I’m curious now. What was your cover story?”
Powers chuckles and folds his arms, silently telling Nevaeh that if she doesn’t spill the beans, he will.
“I told them I was going running,” she mutters, making us all laugh. “It’s not that funny.”
“Please. You, run?” Legs cracks up again.
“She’s not that bad,” Delphi says. “Sometimes she runs for cake.”
“And from pedophiles,” Citi adds, making us glare at her. She bites her lip. “Tough crowd.”
Neveah throws her hands up in the air. “I panicked, okay. What was I supposed to say?”
I grin. “Literally anything else.”
“I hate you all.”
“Liar.”
“Hate to break up the shenanigans, ladies, but I need to steal my girl.”
All their heads whip around to look at me.
“Your girl?” Legs states.
“I wasn’t hiding it. I just hadn’t gotten that far in my story.”
“Next time, start with that part, dammit,” Legs complains, getting to her feet.
“Okay, we’re leaving, but we’re doing it under protest,” Nevaeh states, jumping off the bed.
“Noted,” Powers huffs, holding back a laugh.
Nevaeh turns to me. “We’ll be back for the rest of the story. Hopefully, Amity will make it back for it, too.”
“Is she okay?”
“Oh, she’s fine if you don’t count the crippling mental illness she has, which convinces her running down the side of a building is a perfectly good idea.”
I look to Legs, who shakes her head. “She’s filming back-to-back projects, and right now she’s on location in Miami.”
“I’d be jealous, but I’d never have the balls to do what she does.”
“No, you’ll just run into a building that might blow up,” Delphi chirps.
“You’re one to talk, Miss Grenade.”
“Touché, lovely. Touché.”
