I had a feeling it had nothing to do with the guests milling around our house. But I didn’t say that. I didn’t want Callie to think it was her.

But what if it is?

I shoved the invading thought from my mind, and tried not to dwell on it.

No. This was me. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood, which was laughable really.

I was a twenty-one year old, red blooded male, and had never had any problems when it came to getting a hard-on. And there was no way it was performance anxiety. Right? I mean, it had been a while, and the last person I’d had sex with was…

Kenzi.

I closed my eyes.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

Fuck.

Fuck fuck fuck.

“Hey.” The concern in Callie’s voice brought me back to the present. “Don’t worry about it, okay?”

I swallowed, and nodded my head but didn’t say anything. Not that there was much I could say.

Callie kissed me, and then hopped off the counter. She righted her appearance in the mirror, and gave me a shy smile. “You coming?”

Oh the irony.

My subconscious was a dick.

And you can’t get it hard.

“Yeah, I’ll be out in a minute.” I needed to compose myself, get my shit together.

Callie slipped out of the door, and left me alone in the bathroom. The guy staring back in the mirror looked frazzled, and a little pissed off. Things had been going so well with Callie, I really liked her, liked hanging out with her, but fuck, not getting a hard-on when she was rubbing herself all over me was a fucking problem. My mind drifted to Kenzi, and everything I’d worked so hard to accept, and let go off crawled up my throat and threatened to spill.

A knock on the door pulled me from my haze, and I opened with a little too much force.

Aiden frowned, his phone pressed to his ear. “I have to go,” he said, his brows drawn low into a frown. Seriously? We had a house full of our friends and teammates, and he had to leave? I don’t know why that irritated me, but I chalked it down to being annoyed with myself only seconds ago.

“What’s up?”

Aiden shook his head while he spoke into the phone, and headed towards the front door. “Kenzi, what’s wrong?”

That got my attention. Because…fuck. It was Kenzi.

Aiden spun, and I grabbed the phone. Aiden muttered, “shit” and made a feeble attempt at grabbing the phone back.

“Kenzi?”

I heard her hesitate, her intake of breath.

“Vaughan, put Aiden back on please. I need his help.”

Uh, no. I wasn’t going to do that. If she needed help, then I was going to do it.

“What happened?”

“Just…” exhale. “I need Aiden. Please.”
