“IS THAT MALACHI? TELL ASHLYNN TO ANSWER HER FUCKING PHONE!”
My mouth dropped open.
Malachi looked at me.
I looked at him.
Then both our asses lost it.
“THIS SHIT IS NOT FUNNY!” Jru yelled through the phone, sounding like she was about two seconds away from snatching Ezra's phone out of his hand.
That only made it worse.
I dropped onto the bed laughing while Malachi leaned against the dresser, shoulders shaking. Somewhere on the other end, Ezra was laughing too, which apparently pissed Jru off even more.
I wiped underneath my eyes before my lashes started lifting. “Tell that bitch I'll call her back!” I managed between laughs, barely able to get the words out.
“I HEARD YOU!” Jru shouted, making me slap a hand over my mouth.
“Oh.” I blinked at the phone, realizing she'd heard every damn word.
Malachi damn near folded over.
I grabbed another pillow and threw it at him. “Hang up!” I demanded, laughing so hard my stomach was starting to hurt.
He finally ended the call, still laughing as he shook his head.
I looked back down at my phone. Between Jru's threats, the doctor's appointment I still needed to make, the half-unpacked bedroom around me and my husband standing there getting entirely too much enjoyment out of my problems, I couldn't help smiling.
This was really my life now.
A husband.
A baby.
A home that somehow already felt like mine.
And my best friend apparently getting dragged into the same kind of crazy shit I had gotten myself into.
I knew Jru, though. She wasn't going down without a fight.
I shook my head and opened my phone to make the doctor's appointment.
Shit was about to get real.
Because Ezra was just as fucking crazy as Malachi.
If not crazier.
Chapter 16
Eighty thousand dollars wasn’t shit to me or E. The money was never the problem.
Darnell was.
I’d spent the last few days making sure what I heard was true before I brought anything to E. Now I had proof. Darnell had Terrance inside our organization feeding him information and helping him take from something that belonged to us.
Me, E and Darnell went back. We’d made money together before Darnell decided he wanted his own organization instead of continuing to build as a team. Neither one of us had been mad about it. We divided everything clean, wished him the best and went our separate ways. His territory was his. Ours was ours. Same with our connects.
