Ashlynn said something else, and Jru’s expression changed.
“Wait. What you mean you got some shit to tell me?” Her brows drew together as she listened, momentarily forgetting she was supposed to be mad at me.
A pause.
“Ashlynn—” She pulled the phone away from her ear when the line suddenly went quiet.
The call ended.
Jru slowly lowered the phone and stared at the screen.
“She hung up on me.” She looked genuinely offended, and I couldn't help myself.
“Smart girl.”
Her head whipped toward me. “And where the fuck is my stuff?” She narrowed her eyes, already suspicious of whatever answer I was about to give.
“My house.”
Her mouth fell open.
There it was.
“You moved my shit?” She turned fully toward me, her disbelief giving way to anger.
“I had it moved.” I rubbed a hand over my beard, keeping my voice calm while she looked ready to lose her damn mind.
She shoved her glasses up her nose and stared at me like she was deciding which part of my body to stab first.
“Ezra, I swear to God—” She leaned forward, pointing a finger at me, but I lifted my hand before she could finish.
“Aight. We can turn around.” I nodded toward the windshield, watching her expression shift.
That stopped her.
I nodded toward the window. “Just tell me where you want him to take you. Apartment gone. Ashlynn living with Malachi. Your shit at my house.” I shrugged, letting the situation speak for itself. “So you can come home with me, or your ass can be homeless. Pick one.”
Her jaw dropped.
“You are a fucking psychopath.” She stared at me in disbelief, shaking her head like she'd finally decided I had lost my mind.
“Probably.” I didn't even bother arguing with her.
“I cannot believe you moved my shit.” She looked away for a second before turning back toward me, still trying to wrap her head around what I'd done.
I laughed, and that only made her madder. She folded her arms across her chest and turned toward the window, jaw tight while the city passed outside.
“Crazy ass motherfucker,” she muttered, shaking her head.
I rubbed my hand across my beard and looked the other way before she caught me smiling again.
That conversation was over.
Malachi had gotten rid of the apartment. Her belongings were already at my house, and whether she liked how I’d handled it or not, she didn't have a place to go back to.
She could cuss me out the rest of the ride if it made her feel better.
Her ass was still coming home with me.
