Interesting.

“Yara gay,” I told her, leaning back in my seat.

That got her attention immediately. Her head lifted. “I didn't ask you that.”

“I know,” I replied, keeping my eyes on her.

“I don't care who Yara sleeps with,” she added, a little too quickly.

I leaned back into my seat, watching her face. “Didn't say you did.”

Her eyes narrowed slightly before she returned to the tablet with more interest than the damn floor plan deserved.

I let her have it.

She'd already told on herself yesterday.

I didn't need to make her do it twice.

Miami heat hit us the second we stepped outside.

A truck was already waiting, and with the first appointment pushed back, we had just enough time to get across the city without rushing.

The commercial real estate broker met us outside the first property and started selling the building before we'd made it through the front door. Two levels. High ceilings. Good square footage. Strong location. Enough room for me to do damn near anything I wanted.

On paper, it checked almost every box.

Jru barely spoke during the first ten minutes.

While the broker walked beside me talking about zoning, capacity, surrounding developments, and projected foot traffic, she stayed a few steps behind us with her tablet in one hand, looking at everything.

Not admiring it.

Studying it.

I noticed the difference.

Halfway through the broker explaining how the upper level could be converted into VIP space, I looked behind us.

Jru was gone.

I stopped walking.

The broker stopped with me. “Everything okay, Mr. King?”

“Where Jru at?” I asked, looking past him toward the hallway we'd just walked through.

He looked behind himself like he'd only just realized we'd lost a whole person.

A few seconds later, she appeared from a hallway near the back of the building. I motioned her over.

“Come here.”

She walked toward us, glancing once more over her shoulder before stopping beside me.

“What?” she asked, looking between me and the broker.

I nodded around the building. “What you think?”
