His eyebrows lifted slightly, amusement settling across his face. “You asking?”

“No. I really don’t care.” I scrolled to the next section of the inventory sheet. “She came in looking for you, disappeared upstairs for an hour, then left. I made an observation.”

“Mhm.” He dragged out the sound, making it obvious he didn't believe a damn word I was saying.

I looked up. “What?”

“Nothing.”

“Then stop looking at me like that,” I snapped, irritated by how easily he could get under my skin.

His smile deepened. “Like what?”

“Like you got something to say.”

“I don’t,” he answered, his expression suggesting the exact opposite.

“Good.” I went back to my tablet, refusing to give him anything else.

A few seconds passed, and he still hadn’t moved.

I sighed, finally looking up again. “Don’t you have billionaire shit to go do?”

A quiet laugh left him as he pushed away from the bar. “Yeah. I do.”

“Okay then,” I muttered, returning my attention to the inventory.

He walked off still smiling, which irritated me because I knew he had caught something in my tone.

I just hoped he hadn’t caught all of it.

By the time I finished, the bartenders were gone, the orders had been entered and every bottle in Vice had been accounted for.

I was behind the bar gathering my things when Ezra appeared again.

“I need you Monday,” he announced, stopping on the other side of the counter.

I didn’t look up from my bag. “I’m scheduled?”

“No,” he answered.

I finished sliding my tablet inside before looking at him. “Then what do you need?”

“I’m going out of town.”

“Congratulations,” I replied dryly, continuing to organize my things.

“I wasn’t finished.”

The sharpness in his voice made my eyes lift fully to his.

Ezra stood on the other side of the bar with one hand in his pocket, staring at me with that same serious expression he wore ninety percent of the time.

“Yara set up meetings with some commercial real estate brokers. I’m looking at properties for another Vice location. You’re coming with me.”

I blinked, certain I'd misunderstood him. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me,” he replied, completely unbothered.
