“Shoot,” I muttered, deleting the number and starting the row over.

“You good?” the woman asked, drawing my attention back to her.

My head came up. She was watching me now, and I suddenly felt ridiculous for allowing a complete stranger to distract me from my own work.

“I’m fine,” I replied, straightening my posture.

“Okay.” She dragged the word out slightly before looking back at her phone.

I didn’t know if she had caught the attitude or if I was imagining things because I was already irritated. Either way, I needed her away from my bar before I embarrassed myself.

Her call apparently went unanswered again because she lowered the phone and muttered something under her breath.

That did it.

I set my tablet on the counter a little harder than I intended. “You know what? I’ll go get him for you since it’s that important.”

Her eyes dropped briefly to the tablet before coming back to me. For half a second, I thought she might say something about my tone. Instead, she smiled politely.

“I’d appreciate it. Tell him Yara is looking for him.”

Yara. Of course even her name was pretty.

“Got it,” I answered, stepping from behind the bar.

I headed toward the stairs, irritated by the click of my own heels and even more irritated that I was irritated at all.

I didn’t know that woman. I didn’t know what she was to Ezra. And Ezra damn sure wasn’t mine.

So there was absolutely no reason for me to be marching upstairs like I was about to retrieve somebody’s cheating husband.

Yet here I was.

By the time I reached his office, I had managed to convince myself that I was only doing this because Yara was distracting me from inventory. That was my story. And I was sticking to it.

Ezra’s office door was partially open when I reached it. I knocked once before pushing it farther.

He sat behind his desk with his attention on his laptop, sleeves pushed up his forearms and phone lying face down beside him.

Of course.

He looked up, his eyes moving over me before settling on my face. “What?”

“There’s some light-skinned woman downstairs asking for you,” I told him, folding my arms.

His brows rose, and then his mouth twitched. “Some light-skinned woman?”

“Yes,” I answered, refusing to give him anything more.

“That’s her name?” he asked, the amusement becoming more obvious.

I shifted my weight onto one leg. “She didn’t introduce herself until after I agreed to come get you.”

The amusement on his face grew, which only irritated me more.

“She said she’s been calling you all day and y’all have some important business to handle,” I added, wanting to get this over with.

Ezra leaned back in his chair. “Yara.”
