"I'm on my way. I'll call her now."

I thanked her and ended the call, gripping the steering wheel as I stared through the windshield.

The thought of something happening to Ashlynn or our babies made my stomach twist. I could handle a lot of shit, but losing my family wasn't one of them.

Jru reached across the console, resting her hand against my arm.

"She's gonna be okay, Malachi."

I nodded, swallowing past the tightness in my throat. "Yeah. She better be."

I started the engine and called Ashlynn back through the truck's Bluetooth as I pulled out of the parking space.

"Malachi, where are you?"

"On my way, baby. Yara's coming to get you to the hospital. Don't wait on me."

"Okay," she breathed. "Just hurry."

"I'm coming, beautiful. I promise."

After hanging up, I glanced at Jru. She sat quietly beside me with one hand resting over her belly, watching the road ahead.

I shook my head as I merged onto the highway.

"Lord, I don't know what the fuck You got planned for today, but You doing entirely too much."

Jru busted out laughing, clutching her stomach as she turned toward me.

"Nigga, I thought you was Muslim!"

"SHIT, I AM!" I snapped, gripping the steering wheel. "But right now I need Allah, Jesus, Moses, AND whoever else up there taking requests! Somebody better come down here and help me with this shit!"

Jru laughed so hard she had to wipe tears from her eyes, and despite everything happening, I couldn't help cracking a smile.

I was about to become a father.

My wife was about to have our twins.

And I was bringing Ezra King his missing wife and unborn child.

All in the same motherfucking day.

Somebody was going to have to sedate my ass before we reached Westhaven.

Chapter 24

"OOOOOH, FUCK!"

I gripped the kitchen counter, bending forward as another contraction tightened across my stomach. The pain wrapped around my lower back, stealing every bit of air from my lungs. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to remember the breathing exercises the nurse had taught me, but the only thing coming out of my mouth was a string of curse words.

"Shit! Shit! SHIIIIIT!"

When the pain finally eased, I straightened and glanced at the clock on the microwave.

Where the fuck was my husband?

I'd called Malachi almost twenty minutes ago, and somehow, I was still standing in my kitchen with wet panties, a puddle on the floor, and two babies apparently trying to make their grand entrance without consulting me first.
