“Don’t give me advice nigga. You can’t commit to the girl you with.”
“We got an agreement.”
“Nigga please! From the way she’s been around here doing you, she wears the damn pants and not you.”
“We equal in this shit. Ain’t no who wear the pants.”
“And that my friend is why you have a problem.”
LJ rolled a blunt while we talked about other shit. I was tired of talking about me and Summer’s relationship. It wasn’t over but it damn sure wasn’t on right now. If anyone asked me, I would tell them we were still a couple, but that was no one's business what we had going on right now. That was the main reason I came to LJ’s house instead of going to my mama’s crib.
“Nigga, you roll a blunt so good I forget you only got one hand.”
“I had to adjust but when you good with your mouth, then anything is possible.”
“Nah, you can have the blunt back. I’ll roll my own muthafucka. I don’t know what you do with your mouth behind them bedroom doors.”
I kicked it with LJ for a little before leaving to go check on my mama and a few of my businesses. Shit has really been going good for me and the only thing that was fucked up in my life was my love life. My mama was calling me constantly telling and texting trying to see what was going on. She thought she was real slick in this bullshit. My mama was sweet as hell but she liked her share of drama as long as it wasn’t in her place of business.
My mama thought I didn’t know about her staying in contact with Pinkie. The shit was foul on all levels. Summer deserved loyalty from all of us and I planned on telling her about the shit but I didn’t want to deal with that at the moment until I was back home with Summer. By the end of the day, I was going to fold and call her or pop up. She had an appointment tomorrow and I didn’t want it to be weird as fuck when I got there.
After checking up on everything, I stopped by my mama restaurant to grab me something to eat. LJ baby mama couldn’t really cook but I didn’t want to hurt her feelings. She was a cool ass chick and she was the perfect fit for LJ. I was a guest in their shit so I couldn’t complain about how she cooked.
I spoke to everyone while my mama eyed me down. Making my way to the back, she was right on my trail trying to get out of earshot of everyone before she snapped on me.
“Why are you not answering your phone? I have been trying to call and check on you and Summer.”
“Mama, we good.”
“Are you sure? Summer hasn’t been feeling good and I took her to the hospital two nights ago and they kept her for observation.”
“Why you just now telling me?”
“You better lower your voice. I tried calling you, but you kept ignoring me.”
“What the doctor said?”
“She’s fine but she really needs to rest or she’s not going to be able to hold that baby. Fix whatever the problem is and make her as comfortable as possible.”
“Why I got to fix it? Why it can’t be her?”
“Because she didn’t stick her dick in anyone’s mouth and get caught. Now, go fix it.”
“I’m trying to fix it, but I’m not about to keep arguing with that girl about the same shit over and over again. If we gon’ move past this, then I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”
“You can’t tell a woman when and how she heals. Her questioning you may be aggravating to you but to her, it’s her way of trying to trust you again. Once she feels like she can trust you, the questioning will stop.”
“Since you being team Summer tell me why you still talking to Pinkie? Have you thought about how that could affect her if she sees it?”
“Pinkie and I only talk on a business level. It’s never personal. What I look like talking about Summer with her?”
“I’m just making sure you not trying to be messy.”
“I would never do anything to hurt Summer. Go home and check on her, please.”
One thing I didn’t want to do was go home empty-handed. I stopped by the store and grabbed all her favorite candies and snacks. Summer was likely to have an attitude when I got there because I hadn’t called or anything but neither had she so we were both in the wrong.
When I placed my key in the door and walked in and heard Whitney Houston singing throughout the house, I knew Summer was in her feelings. Whitney was her favorite singer and she would clean up the whole house to her when she was bothered. The smell of bleach and other cleaning supplies filled my nostrils. I followed the sound of her cracking voice. Summer stood in the stand-up mirror, singing her heart out with a brush in her hand. I hated to disturb her but her voice was horrible.
