“Why on God’s green earth did you let me drink so much? I thought you were supposed to be my best friend.”
Stella and I did in fact party it up with Sexy One and Sexy Two, I mean Nathan and Troy. Not only did we party it up in the club where we met them, but we went to four different clubs along the strip. Everywhere we went they let us right in, gave us bottle service and access to every VIP section they had. We danced with A-list celebrities, fashion models, and rock stars. It was incredible. It was the most fun I've had my entire life and I loved every second of it. We were queens for the night, but now I’m hung over and green at the gills.
Once we came back to the land of the living and had a small breakfast this morning, we decided to be lazy and by being lazy, we meant do nothing. We rented a cabana by the hotel’s pool and had non-alcoholic drinks brought to us non-stop.
“I am, and because I’m your best friend I won’t mention all of the fun you had last night because of me.”
“Because of you? I didn’t know you had all that clout. Here I was thinking all these years you were just a physician. You’ve been holding out on me, dear Stella.”
“Baby, you know I'm so much more than my nine to five and to answer your question, yes, because of me. If it hadn’t been for me then you wouldn’t have danced your ass off. You wouldn’t have hob knobbed with the Hollywood elite. I’m not going to even mention the chemistry you had with your man. Or the little fact of him having his hands all over you. And I won’t mention that I saw, several times in fact, his lips on your neck, your ear, and a few other places,” she wags her eyebrows up and down. “Do I need to go on?”
“He’s not my man, Stella.”
“He can be.”
“No he can’t. It was one night, one night of fun and that’s it. I don’t know anything more about him other than the fact that he’s gorgeous.”
“How can you say that?”
“Because it’s the truth.”
“Laney dear, you seriously need to stop and take a moment sometimes to notice things. Your always eyes straight ahead, focused on what needs to get done and nothing more. If you would look around, then maybe you would see more, know more, and experience a fuller life.”
“So you’re going that route? You aren’t even going to try to pull the whole...you know I took one for the team?” She shrugs her shoulders at me. “Seriously, Stella? Don’t play Mother Teresa because you aren’t even Catholic. You did last night just as much for you as you did for me. I noticed Troy and how that boy couldn't keep his hands off you. I’m actually shocked that you went home with me last night and not him.”
“And that right there, my dear is how I took one for the team.” She gives me a wink.
“You’re unbelievable. I don’t know why I put up with you.” I give her a cheesy smile.
“Easy, because we’re family. We’re the family that’s most important, the family by choice and not by blood. That’s why you put up with me and that’s why I put up with you.”
“Because we want to and not because we have to.” She nods her head in agreement.
