“To be honest Savannah, I’ve never been in love so I can’t tell you how I am when it comes to something I have no experience with.” Anxiety appears on her face. “Gimme that hand, sugar. I need to hold it.” She slides her hand along the top of the table, placing it in mine. I already feel more centered just by her touch. “I don’t like the look on your face, and I’m in no way trying to back out or make excuses for myself. I’m just trying to communicate.” She nods “I gotta say, this stuff is a lot easier in the darkness of our room instead of the light of the day. I’m big into never judging a book by its cover and I can tell you that you haven’t once judged me by my tattoos or the company I keep. That’s one of the things that I admire about you. But seriously.” I rub my thumb along her hand. “Look at me and then look at you, and I’m not saying the outside. But the way we live our lives. You’re wholesome–”

“I’m not that wholesome. I'm knocked up out of wedlock. You can’t put me on a pedestal because I’m only going to disappoint you when I fall.”

“Sugar, I’ll be the only one there to catch you when you do. And that’s what I’m saying. I want you so much, Savannah. More than I’ve ever wanted anything in my life, more than I thought I could ever have and that in its entirety scares the shit out of me. I know what I want and that’s you. One hundred percent in my life and in my bed.”

“I’m already in your bed.” She rebukes.

“That you are and believe me, I don’t want to just be lying beside you. I want to be inside you. Needing to know how soft and warm you’re going to feel when I finally sink my cock into your sweet cunt. That need is turning into a yearning that I’ve never experienced. I’m so thirsty for it that I feel like I won’t get enough of you when I finally do have you. But I need to know, that it’s me that you want.”

“I do.” Her answer is quick and confident, even though her face is flushed.

“Is it me that you want to share your life with? With all of my dark and light, the heaven and hell, the virtue and sin. It’s not just your life that I’m asking for, but the life of your daughter because once you give me the word, no one who is going to keep me away from what’s mine. I can guarantee it.”

“I know who you are. I know what you think you are and I’m not worried about it. For once in my life I’m secure in my decisions and I know that you would never let me down.”

She has more confidence in me than I have in myself. “I don’t want to let you down. That’s probably one of my biggest fears.”

“You won’t, Matthew. You need to have faith.”

“I think you’ll need to have enough faith for the both of us.”

She bites her bottom lip. Her eyes hold so much hope a smile spreads across her face. ‘So we’re doing this.” She points her free hand between the two of us.

“Yeah, sugar. We’re doing this. Taking it slow, making sure you’re where you need to be and me too, but we’re doing this.”

Without warning, she pulls on my hand as she rises from her chair. Only being mere inches from me, I can see a hint of mischief and whole lot of lust in her eyes. “Then kiss me,” she dares me as she slowly runs her tongue over the plumpness of her lip.

I wrap my hand around the back of her neck and pull her in. My tongue sweeps along the seam of her lips asking for entrance right before she opens and I feel the warmth of her breath along my mouth. My eyes flutter close and I know for the first time in my life that I’m where I’m meant to be. A slight moan comes from her and makes me tighten my grip, causing her to give me a small yelp. I pull back and watch her eyes dilate. Her lips are wet and plump, her face slightly flushed. “Sugar, that, wow that–”

“Is highly inappropriate.” I glance up to see a woman standing behind Savannah. Savannah’s face has grown pale. She drops to her seat and she seems to shrink in front of me. She’s no longer the vibrate woman who was just discussing our future together, she looks broken.

“Excuse me?” I growl out. “Who in the hell are you?”

"When are you going to stop this nonsense, Savannah and come home?" The lady ignores my question and the obvious fact that I’m sitting right here.

"She is home."

The woman sneers at me. "I beg to differ; her home is back in Texas, with the father of her child, in the home that he has built for them. Not at some biker clubhouse. A Redding heir is not to be born, let alone raised in such filth."

"Meredith." Savannah looks up, her eyes drifts beyond the woman, and then back. "Please leave and don't cause a scene."

"I'm not here to cause you any stress, dear. That is my grandchild you're carrying, I would never put it in harm’s way."

"I can't say the same for your son." I say. She looks at me, like I'm beneath her. I fucking hate people like that. They see me and they think I’m nothing but trouble, a lawbreaker, biker out-law.

"I do not know what you're implying. Tyson loves Savannah and his child."

I stand up, causing the table to push towards Savannah, making her jump. "You need to open your eyes, ma'am and see your son for what he truly is before he makes sure your name is nothing but scum. Your son doesn't know the meaning of love and I'll be damned if he ever comes near my girl or our baby. His time of hurting her is over. Never again will that piece of shit touch one hair on her head or lay eyes on that baby. I'll guaran-damn-tee it."

“Your baby?” She questions.

“Matthew, please.” Panic is written all over Savannah’s face.

"I think your girl needs to educate you on exactly who I am and what my last name means in this country. You heard me right, country. I'm thee Meredith Redding, and I'll squash the both of you and make sure you never lay eyes on that baby." She faces Savannah. "You better pray my son takes you back when you've finally gotten your head out of your ass. He can have a number of women in this country and yet he still chooses you. You better hope when you come groveling back, it won't be too late."

"I'll do it." Savannah says emphatically.

Once Meredith left the diner, I knew I had to do something to light the fire of strength that she had gained since she’s been with me. She’s grown leap and bounds since coming to the club and I wasn’t about to let that hag of a woman destroy what Savannah has overcome. Her spirit wasn’t ever really broken, it was just her confidence and her worth that was weakened and I never wanted her to question herself again. So I told her what Cut has planned and I told her the involvement of Tyson and what he’s really been doing late at night while she is a prisoner in that house of his.
