It had been days since she’d heard from Heath.

Almost a week.

And while she knew they weren’t official, she felt… a little… angry.

She heard a knock at the front door.

It was soft enough because she was in her office across from her bedroom at the far end of the house.

She didn’t want to answer.

There was work to be done.

And honestly, she wanted to be alone at this point.

Missing Heath was making her irritable.

The knock sounded again and she grit her teeth together. “Go away.”

When the knocks stopped, she let out a long, pent-up breath.

Mari went back and reread the words she’d just typed on the screen and hated that the words seemed to drift along with her mind.

Damn it.

She felt like it made sense in a weird way.

She’d been so focused for so long.

Work.

Volunteer.

Work.

Volunteer.

It made sense and it filled her life.

Wall to wall.

Leaving no room for… wanting more than she had.

Wanting what she couldn’t have.

A family like her parents.

After all, if she wanted to have a relationship, she’d have to meet people.

People like Heath who’d walked into her world, tossed her off the edge of normal, and left her alone.

A week.

Which made her feel like a needy, idiotic, love-crazy nutcase.

Love crazy.

That was just a word.
