He pulled back from the door, but not from her.
She held on, her legs around him and her hands still gripping his shirt.
She tried to break her mouth free to tell him where to go, but Heath didn’t let her.
Somehow, they made their way down the hall without knocking her photos down and for once she was happy that she’d kept her bedroom door open.
Together, they moved into her room and Heath, using a strength that impressed the hell out of her, lowered her to the bed without dropping her on her back or crushing her to death.
Heath didn’t stop kissing her, but he worked his hands free.
Mari didn’t want to lose hold of him and used one of her hands to grasp at the back of his shirt. It was difficult to get any real purchase on it as the fabric was stretched across his back.
She opened her eyes and caught sight of the ceiling above her bed.
For the first time she understood the idea of having a mirror on the ceiling.
What it must look like to see his back in all of its naked glory…
She moaned into his mouth and felt him deepen their kiss.
It took her breath away.
There was something in the way he kissed her that spoke of a kind of desperation.
A desperation she understood on some level.
Having lost her parents in quick succession and living alone for months on end, she felt like she was hovering somewhere between the living and the dead.
Feeling his weight…
Feeling his warmth on her.
Around her.
It all felt like she was awakening from some kind of a coma.
Feeling for the first time in ages.
Rather than being soothed or fulfilled by his presence, it only left her wanting more.
Needing more.
She wanted to say something, but his kiss was everything.
It kept her from saying a word.
At least one he could hear.
She bit down on his lip.
She couldn’t tell if it was his top or bottom lip. She just bit down.
With a soft grunt, he pulled back and met her gaze.
“Too much?”
He sounded worried rather than disappointed.
