“Shoot ‘em and dump in the woods,” said the former SEAL in a voice that was devoid of emotion.
“That’s not a good idea,” said one of the bikies. “You heard that drone yesterday. The Mounties are looking at us. We off a couple of yank SEALs, and they’re going to sniff around. They’ll find bodies in the woods, even if the bears tear them up.”
“You’re right. Tie them up. We’ll take them out on the boat.”
“And the dogs?”
“That’s the kicker. That breeding pair is worth three times as much as the pups. I’ll deal with them. You get these assholes on the boat.”
“OK fuckers. Get on your knees,” yelled one of the bikies.
Mike and Rick reluctantly complied. Flashlights were shone on their faces as their captors secured their wrists behind their backs with tape. Then they searched their pockets, removing Mike’s phone.
“You fairy fucks would be right into this, wouldn’t you?” said one of the bikies, waving his pistol in their faces.
“Bud, you’ve got some deep-seated issues you need to work through,” replied Rick.
“Shut the fuck up and get in,” snapped the man.
They forced Mike and Rick into the back of the van and locked them in the caged cargo section.
“What’s the plan?” whispered Rick, once they were alone.
“Can you get your hands free?” asked Mike, as he struggled against his bonds.
“Don’t think so. The bastards used half a roll of tape.”
Someone thumped the side of the truck. “Shut up or I’ll put a bullet in you.”
“We sit tight for now,” whispered Mike. “First chance we get, we jump the bastards.”
Rick smiled. “That’s what I’m talking about.”
Leaving the SEALs under the watch of his bikie comrades, Kane crossed to the shed where he was storing the puppies. Turning the door handle, he pushed the door inwards, opening it a few inches, and paused to listen. He could hear the puppies at the back of the shed, but nothing else. Reaching inside, he flicked on the light switch and stepped into the shed.
Sharp reflexes were the only thing that saved him. He spotted the two enraged adult Malinois as they attacked. Terrified, he leaped backward, slamming the door shut in the large male’s face.
The sheer savagery of the assault scared him to the core as he stepped back from the door. It sounded like there was a bear inside, and the dents in the door were testimony to the animal’s power.
“Holy shit,” said a voice behind him. It was one of the bikies. “Did those pups get out?”
“No.” Kane managed a nervous laugh. “Much better than that. My SEAL buddies brought us an absolute payday. A breeding pair of tier one working dogs.”
“Are they worth a few bucks?”
Kane nodded. “Yeah, but we need to get them into a cage, and they’re not in the mood to be compliant.”
“What are you going to do?”
“I’ll dart them. But not until I slow them down a little.”
“Gas?”
“Yeah, get my gear.”
Kane circled the building until he found a head-high window covered in steel mesh. He used a rock to knock out a section of glass. The dogs inside responded aggressively, barking and jumping against the wall.
When the bikie returned with his backpack, he took out a bottle and a torn piece of towel. Pouring the contents of the bottle on the rag, he stuffed it through the broken window, careful not to inhale. It hit the ground inside with a wet thud. “They teach these dogs not to eat baits, but they encourage them to sniff,” he explained as he took a dart gun from his backpack and cocked it.
