“We said ten.”
“And it’s ten.”
“Ten-oh-eight.”
“You charging by the minute now?”
“I’m considering it.”
I laughed and shook his hand before opening my office.
Priest Knox still looked like he could step into the cage and collect a check, but he had retired from MMA. His uncle had managed his career. Now he was handling his younger brother’s career.
Even though he had his own family empire to run, his younger brother had something special. But with his attitude and bad boy ways, he needed someone like Priest to rein him in.
“You want something to drink?” I asked.
“Nah, I’m good,” he replied.
“How’s Deacon looking?”
“Good. He’s putting the work in.”
“That ain’t what I asked.”
Priest gave me a look.
“What you wanna know?”
“Is his crazy ass gonna be ready in a few weeks, or am I gonna be explaining to a room full of people why Raul Lopes ain’t got nobody to hit?”
“He’ll be there. And he’ll beat Raul’s ass.”
“I’m trustin’ you.”
“Listen, I can get him in the gym,” he continued. “That part ain’t hard. It’s getting him to understand everything outside the gym affects what we’re trying to do.”
“What he doing now?”
“Thinking because he trains hard, the rest of his time belongs to him.”
“It does.”
“Tell that to the people calling me about what comes out his mouth.”
I leaned back in my chair.
“You knew who your brother was before you agreed to manage him,” I laughed.
The Knox family was some heavy hitters. They owned a mortuary empire as well as a lot of property.
“And you know how crazy little brothers can be. You got Prime,” he said.
“Prime settled down,” I countered.
“It took a wife and three kids.”
Priest laughed and rubbed his jaw.
