“I live here,” I replied. “You’re the one who needed to sneak through the woods.”

“This ain’t got shit to do with you,” she shot back.

“You brought a gun to the house where my son is sleeping. It has everything to do with me.”

“Son? I came here for those kids but you would’ve been a bonus.”

Justice stepped closer to her chair.

“Look at me.”

“I don’t give a fuck if you kill me.”

“Is that so?”

“You think your name is still going to mean what it meant yesterday?” Her voice rose. “People got videos of themselves running out of your casino. Screaming. Getting trampled. That’s what they’re going to think about when they hear Banks Grand now.”

Justice didn’t answer.

“You ruined my legacy. Now yours is fucked up, too.”

She looked past him at me, trying to smile.

“Enjoy all this shit while you can.”

I stayed beside him without answering. I wasn’t giving her the satisfaction of anger or irritation.

Justice held his hand out to the guard nearest him. Without a word, the man placed a pistol in his palm with a suppressor already threaded onto the barrel. Justice raised the gun.

Kira jerked against the chair as he fired. The shot came out as nothing more than a muffled pop, but I flinched anyway, gripping his arm before I could stop myself.

He lowered the weapon and turned toward me.

“Come on.”

I looked at her once before following him upstairs. When we reached the kitchen, he handed the gun back to the guard and turned to me.

“Go upstairs and be with Keenan. I’m gonna call the police and report that she came here wielding a gun. You and security can testify for that but go for now. We gotta move the body,” he said to me.

I nodded and headed upstairs. Finally, that crazy bitch was gone.

I signed Storie’s discharge papers while my phone kept vibrating beside the clipboard. Quest had sent another update, but I put the phone in my pocket before the woman at the desk could start reading my fucking business.

The Banks Grand was still closed. By the end of the week, I had heard the words ongoing investigation enough times to want to break something. We were losing money every day those doors stayed shut. But more importantly, five lives were lost: two guards in the money room and three people in the explosion.

Those people came for the fight between Deacon and Raul. And now a lot of them were going to have PTSD after being so close to an explosion. Those niggas brought in a small pipe bomb. Our name was attached to a war zone. Which was just as bad as rats and roaches. Actually worse because of the deaths.

At least the investigation was going in our favor.

Sean Myers, the only robber left alive, had given up the people who paid him to rob the casino. He gave up Kyle and Big Will, and both of those niggas had been arrested. I would’ve rather killed them but I had to let the police do their job.

They would have a worse time in prison. They were on the line for murder and using an explosive device.

While I waited for Storie to come out, I read Quest’s message. He said the investigators were still going through the footage. Our licensed security had defended the money room, and Sean’s confession backed up what they were seeing.
