I’ve been struggling to keep him away from me—physically and emotionally.

It’s probably good if he gives her a chance. He won’t come after me as hard as he’s been so far if he starts dating Eliza. He might stop with everything altogether, too.

Good riddance.

It should be a relief.

Except it doesn’t feel like relief at all.

I’m burning inside, and there’s no denying it: I’m jealous of Eliza getting close to Louis.

I’m freaking jealous of one of my students over another of them.

This can’t be happening to me.

I circle my desk to sit behind it and take a big gulp of water.

“Miss Jardin, I’m not sure about something. Can I show it to you?” Daniel asks me from the back of the room. He’s not picking up the language very well, and even though I paired him with Luc—who has been sending me an email a week since the beginning of the year, and is on his way to being my best student—it doesn’t seem to be helping. But he’s one of the sweetest students I have in this class. He’s a bit older than the rest of the class, and I have a strong feeling that he’s one of the shifters. I don’t know why.

“No problem,” I tell him, trying to look anywhere but the front row at Eliza cozying up to Louis.

“Are you okay, Miss?” Daniel asks me, very low, when he gets to the side of my desk.

He gives a small nod toward my reusable bottle that I’m holding so tight that my fingers have started to leave an imprint on it—it’s definitely not supposed to do that.

Did he hear the bottle crack in my fist from the back of the room? Is it why he came up to my desk?

That’s definitely something that would confirm his shifter status. But what kind of shifter can hear a bottle crack from the other side of a room? I didn’t even hear it, and the bottle is in my hand.

“Just a bit tired,” I tell him as I drop the bottle on my desk. “What is it you need my help with?”

Daniel looks at me like I’ve grown a second head before realizing that’s what he said before coming to see me at my desk, and then he gets closer to me.

“I didn’t need anything,” he whispers so low I almost feel like I imagine the words. “I just wanted to make sure you are alright.”

Like I said, he’s the sweetest of my students.

“Thank you for your concern, but I’m good,” I tell him, and I realize I might be a little harsh when I see him tense.

“Truly, I’m good,” I add, softer.

Daniel looks around us, and then at me again before his shoulders relax.

“Okay,” he says. He turns to go back to his desk, but then stops, turns my way as if he’s going to add something, but decides against it and keeps walking until he reaches his desk and lets himself sag onto the chair next to Luc.

It was easier to convince him than myself, though, because I truly don’t seem to know what to do with that feeling inside of me.

God, this is insane.

I take a deep breath.

I can’t let it get to me.

There’s absolutely no reason for me to feel this way.

“If you want my dick that much, maybe you should get on your knees and beg,” I hear Louis say, and it pulls me out of the weird funk I’ve been in since the class started today.
